This statement suggests that you don't understand filmmaking. There will never, ever, ever be a standardized aspect ratio for movies, nor should there be.

People are just going to have to get used to the bars. Deal with it and quit whining. You're getting the best PQ you've ever had in your life. Just shut up and enjoy it, people.

You may think so and that's fine, but HDTV manufacturers are going to maintain 16:9 as a widescreen standard and the fact that it matches HD broadcast standards is no mere coincidence.

I remember the first "letterbox" video I plugged in. I was really put of fby the black bars. This was in '98, on a 50" mitsubishi rear projection TV. I had no idea about aspect ration, heck, no many people knew about then. The black bars were quite large! As that format took off and many vids came out in "letterbox", I got to where I could ignore them. Then when the widescreens came out, I had to have one, that made a huge difference in the width of the black bars. What's ahead? Auto-adjusting screens? Runco is touting "No black bars" on their website. I haven't looked close byut I am guessing their screens autoadjust. Again, who knows what the next breakthrough will be. I just wanted mention how technology has changed.

I assume there "No Black Bars" thing is because they mostly sell Front Projectors at Runco. The bars don't matter then because there is no fixed screen limitation.

Private is correct, Runco is referring to their anamorphic lens adapters for front projectors. This is entirely different as it never touches the actual image itself. It eliminates the bars because you're able to project 2.35:1 images as well as other ratios by having the lense crop out the portions not needed. This is not the same thing as the concept behind an auto-adjusting TV screen, which requires changes to the image via zooming.
