Default pcm 5.1

Simply amazing there is no good information explaining pcm 5.1 on the internet…

Anyway, it’s been awhile I did some serious research on audio and I need some help.
My blu-ray disk all say “PCM 5.1”. they don’t even advertise DD5.1 on the cases now but we all know they also include DD5.1

My question is what’s better? Like I said, it’s been awhile but PCM was analog. If I set my “old” receiver upstairs to PCM you get poor audio quality (compared to DD)

I’m assuming that PCM 5.1 is the DD 5.1 equivalent right?

Last thing is, anyone own the Samsung blu ray (p1000) know what is the proper audio settings are? Options are PCM or bitstream. I know bitstream is for DD but would I set this to PCM to use PCM 5.1?

Thanks in advance.

PCM is uncompressed audio. Use PCM.

Pressing the display button should at least give you the codec and the sampling frequency. What receiver are you using? BTW, you will probably get better answers to your question in the receiver forum on this site.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate it. I’ll give the receiver forums a shot. What I was really trying to figure out is, what’s the difference between PCM 5.1 and DD5.1. more importantly, whats better 

Thanks again
