Default Is Sony setting Samsung up to be the fall guy with Sony's sub-par movies?

It just occurred to me that Sony's decision to delay the first Sony player another 2 months (until "On or about 10/25/06" - see link) after just releasing Sony studio's (generally accepted) sub-par movies, might be setting Samsung up to take the fall for the bad PQ of these first movies, and the reason the PQ looks bad. See this link for the new date:

http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INT...ub&Dept=tvvideo

If I was Samsung that is the way I would view this new development. Normally I would assume that Samsung would be glad to have the stage to itself with the only BD player out for an extra 2 months (from the old 8/25/06 Sony release date), but after seeing the first Sony movies coming out they must be ticked off and thinking they got screwed by Sony. You can already see Samsung getting a lot of the heat for the lower PQ of BD compared to HD-DVD PQ.

I am really thinking that there is very little chance that BD50 discs will be out this year at all. Why else would Sony delay their BD player again? For Pete's sake, Sony IS the BD format for the most part and they now will not have a player for the format THEY created? Unbelievable isn't it?

Maybe Samsung will end up coming over to the "Bright Side" after they realize they got setup to be the fall guy for Sony's own arrogance.

Did Elvis kill Hoffa or was Hoffa just the fall guy for Judge Crater - where's Crabtree?

I think Samsung is more than happy to be the first Blu-Ray player out there. They always had been "scheduled" to be first, despite the delays, no doubt by agreement among the BDA members.

Yes, they take the hit for new product bugs and lack of content, but they also get all the publicity. Samsung's products are not noted for being bug-free anyway.

Sony is just taking a cue from the Japanese Manufacturing playbook--wait until it's nice and polished before you introduce it in the US.

Yes, but Samsung is getting a bad rap for PQ BECAUSE of the SONY BD movies they released being horrible.

No doubt, as I have already seen reports about the problems with the "Core" PQ functions of the Samsung, that their player is part of the problem, but it is as much a problem with the movies on the BD discs too.

It occurs to me that this could backfire on Sony. The word that is likely to go out to your average Joe Consumer is not that the movies are poor quality or that the Samsung's player is substandard. The word that will most likely circulate is that BD is the inferior format! ie: "I heard Blu Ray sucks compared to HD-DVD". Couple that with a higher price tag and you have signed BD death warrant in my opinion.

Yeah I don't think Sony would want that at all. No conspiracy here. They want the format to succeed, remember?

I saw demo of sony BD player at sony store a week ago and saw one today at circuitcity. It is really strange that one I saw at sony store was much more clearer than the samsung one I saw today. If it is same technology, why is there a difference? Could it be the movie or the player? Could the Sony player, when it comes out, be better than samsung? What do you think?

They used a demo disc at the Sony store so they could use a higher bitrate than they can really use for a movie. I am sure they also cleaned up those short clips much more than they did with the actual movies they have released so far.

That is one of the problems with most demo discs. They very well might not reflect REAL WORLD results that a product will provide.
