so true and true elsewhere such as CC. They (sales staff) know very little about what they sell. However, the vendor at BB was not a BB employee but a vendor rep who gave me the info on the BD/HD DVD format issue.

I'm not emotionally worked up about this whole thing, I just like facts not fanboy statements being posted.
I didn't learn to add that it is my opinion-Everything here is opinion. Blu-ray is sensational as, I'm sure, HD DVD is. Whatever format survives, we will all adopt. The two competing formats have given no one pleasure and have caused the High Definition DVD to crawl to market. With one format, the launch would have been faster and sooner. Need I add that this is my opinion?

I know how HD DVD will win the format war once and for all. I think that Blu-Ray is winning right now for two reasons. 1: It came out first and had the advantage, not to mention the connectivity with the PS3. 2: It has the best movies. It's disadvantages are mainly due to the cost. Even with the PS3 it is not worth the money, at least for me.

I believe that if Disney and Fox would at least back HD DVD (if not Blu-Ray too) that HD DVD will win the format war.

I read somewhere that when the LOTR trilogy is released on a high-def DVD it will go both Blu-Ray and HD DVD. I think it has something to do with learning for themselves which version sells more.

I also read that HD DVD is selling more players, but Blu-Ray is selling more DVDs.

It should be easy to predict that more HD DVD copies of LOTR and not to mention Harry Potter (which is doing the same thing now as LOTR will later) than Blu-Ray. Why? More people own HD DVD than Blu-Ray players.

In summary, I am hoping that Disney and Fox realize with how well Harry and Lord of the Rings HD DVD sales that they will back it. Therefore, ending Blu-Ray once and for all.

Actually, HD DVD came out first. But the PS3 sold so much better than the HD DVD players that HD DVD was way behind in a short period of time, to the tune of 5:1 (players) real quick. HD DVD has yet to overcome much since then. There are approx. 2.7 million PS3 in the world vs approx 700-800K HD DVD players.

HD DVD has been increasing faster than BD as of late but they still have a mountain to climb.

I agree that it would be nice to have both Fox and Disney supporting both, bu that is the HD DVD supporter in me talking.

I don't think any of us know which will survive. I thought DVD-Audio was a total no brainer. Awesome surround mixes to music I like. Seems no one cared. I'm still stunned that there aren't enough people my age who wouldn't go out and buy every DVD-Audio version of music they like.

I own a few DVD-Audio discs & SACD discs as well, but the selection outside of classical music seems fairly limited.

Both of these hi-rez music formats sound fantastic though.

i believe blu-ray will win.... it has more capacity, its hi-def, and its backwards compatible.. all else is really unimportant details that consumers arent going to care about.

its that simple

im already seeing trends that were at the middle of the beta vhs war. like EVERY store around where i live has about 30% more shelf room for blurays than hddvd's. eventually it will be more and more and then nothing but people scrambling to sell them(hddvd players) on ebay to break even. Another telltale sign is hddvd players being cheaper. its i sign of desperation, and shows the average consumer which is better.
(customer automatically thinks more expensive is better which is usually true)

Not sure your comments establishes you as a great marketing guru...

There is no winner yet. But if another major studio (Warner?) goes HD DVD exlusive, like Paramount did recently, then the battle could see an eventual ending.

Yeah.

Uhm, do you know that WalMart is the largest company in the world in terms of sales dollars (bigger than GM, bigger than ExxonMobil). WalMart sell a lot of expensive stuff, right? No? It doesn't matter what consumers "think" about products, what matters is what they buy and overwhelmingly consumers choose less expensive products that do what they want.

I could just as easily say:"HD DVD has lower price, its hi-def, and its backwards compatible.. all else is really unimportant details that consumers arent going to care about."

You don't really think consumers care what capacity their video disc is, do you? They don't even know what relevance that might have to watching movies.

perhaps you are right...

but i cant ignore the obvious signs.

i think it will be over by years end.
maybe they will add an update to blu-ray so it will play all the old hddvd movies so people dont feel so abused. That would be nice.

I hope both fail so Sony and Toshiba can learn their lesson. Maybe next time they will try harder to compromise so this whole war can be avoided.

I just read Warner Bros. is going Blu. If this is true than isn't it safe to assume that BD has won? Time to buy Blu-Ray Player I guess.

Warner has chosen to go Blu Ray exclusive, however, Universal, Paramount + DWs still haven't changed their positions. If they do then there will be no choice but to go Blu. If any of the other Blu exclusive studios go neutral or HD then we go back to where we were again. Either way, I see no need to worry about it.
