Default Toshiba HD DVD A2 and Yamaha RX V765 - Dolby TrueHD

Is the A2 capable of playing DTHD via my Yamaha RXV765?
I read the posts on the A35 but the A2 doesn't have same audio menu options.

One post said: "To playback HBR (Dolby TrueHD, DD+, DTS-HD XX, etc.) over HDMI 1.3, set "Digital Out HDMI" to "auto", set "Direct Digital Audio" to "on."

However in the same thread it later said: "Set digital output via HDMI to BITSTREAM not AUTO like you currently have it. This will automatically enable internal player decoding with any HD DVD discs."

The A2 does not have the Audio option to Bitstream only Auto or PCM.

Lastly, I have my A2 HDMI cable going into the Yamaha receiver. Would it be possible to use a fiber optical cable going from the A2 to Yamaha in order to acheive Dolby TrueHD?

Please Help. Thank you.

Yes, the Toshiba HD-A2 can play Dobly TrueHD. You must set the HD-A2 to PCM and it will decode Dolby TrueHD and output PCM. The HD-A2 doesn't decode DTS-HD MA so all you can do is use the standard DTS stream with those discs. The Yamaha RX-V765 will indicate PCM when the HD-A2 decodes and outputs PCM. Almost any current Blu-ray player will bitstream the advanced audio codecs and the RX-V765 will indicate audio codec used with Blu-ray.

So even though the Yamaha info panel displays PCM (when the A2 is set to PCM but is decoding Dolby TrueHD and outputing PCM) the receiver is outputing Dolby TrueHD?

I will report back this evening. Thanks for your reply.

Yes even though it says PCM it IS DtHD. It is only changing WHERE the encoded soundtrack is getting converted back to PCM. When bitstreaming (if the HD-A2 could do that), it would get done in the receiver but in the end it will ALWAYS get converted to LCM to be heard. If you didn't have a HDMI HD audio decoding receiver the A2 also converts to DTS over optical to get the higher 1.5mbps bitrate. It doesn't decode DTS-HD MA but hardly any titles used that on HD DVD.
