Default Pioneer Blu-ray (BDP-120) plays HD DVD's w/firmware upcoming Firmware Update?

I think I am ready to get a Blu-Ray player within the next 2 months, I am talking my time. But this caught me off guard???

Is this for real or is Best Buy Canada messed up again
The guy at the store said I would need a firmware update which Pioneer won't release until mid November 2009 to enable this player to support HD DVD.

I own one... but must confess I have not heard of this. Check with Pioneers official site....not sure why they would choose to support the now defunct format?

BB Canada webber probably doesn't understand that "AVCHD" is different than "HDDVD" and confused sales rep didn't bother to clarify or is just as mis-informed. I highly doubt that Pioneer will now support a dead format with a firmware upgrade.

Super XP, there is zero chance that the Pioneer Blu-ray player will be updated to play HD DVD. You never fail to come up with the silliest things regarding what is going to happen with HD DVD, but even you should know that one is absolute nonsense.

Yea Super, don't EVER think that you can come in here and ask a question about something that you think is actually questionable!.....

(At least you shouldn't expect to NOT be ridiculed, for doing so)

I understand. It's obviously a typo then. But this is what it reads.
Supported HD Disc Formats Blu-ray Disc, HD DVD

And this is why I went into the store to confirm whether this was a typo or not. I am it the market for a BD player, and obviously this caught my eye.

Maybe somebody should tell BestBuy Canada about this.

the BDP 120 is a very good Blu-ray player it decodes all of the hd audio formats I am aware of....Is 7.1...Kuro link and bd live compliant, the only drawback I have witnessed with this player is it lags just a bit when playing some DVDs.... I love popping a Blu into the disc closing the tray and watching my Pio receiver and my Kuro pro elite switch to the proper inputs automatically all with the touch of one button.

As mentioned above it is probably a mistype for AVCHD playback.
