Default best hook-up for Sony Wega/DTV/HD-A3??

HI ALL: I'm very new to this forum and have a question.

I have an HD-A3 coming soon and wondering what would be the best connections to go with my Sony Wega tv...Directv....and new dvd player??

The TV only has 'ONE' HDMI connection so I'm thinking to hook it up this way....

1. HDMI...dvd player to tv
2. Component....directv to tv
3. Optical from both player and direct tv to Pioneer receiver

I've heard that you need to have hdmi connection from player to tv in order to get best 'upscale' ability on 'regular' dvds...is this correct????

Thanks in advance. I'm sure I'll have many future questions down the road......

Welcome to the forum!

That is how I would do it if I only had one HDMI input. I actually DO only have one on my DLP, but I have a receiver with HDMI inputs so it is like adding another.

Your plan is correct about how to connect them to your display.
