Hd player question

Do you have to get the firmare update for new players to work I dont have a dvd drive so How would I get it?

If it is the HD DVD player by Toshiba, then you can connect a broadband internet connection to the ethernet port of the back of the player. Then go to the menu > setup > maintenance > upgrade??

Or, you can download the update from www.Toshiba.com and burn it to a CD or DVD and put that in the player.

Or, you can call Toshiba's 1-800 number and have them send you the update disc free of charge.

3 options, your choice. If your not so techy, go with the last option, you will have the disc in your mailbox in about a week or so.

Are you thinking of buying both a blu-ray and HD DVD player?

Thanks Im not sure if Im going to get one I have the xbox 360 hd drive.

If you are looking at saving the life of your xbox, I'd suggest the HD-A3. Its $199 right now on amazon and comes with 10 movies (5 by mail, 2 in the box and 3 instantly.)

I got the A2 when it was $98 and stopped using my 360 for playback.

Can you doenload the firmware from the ethernet port on the back of this unit? Toshiba - HD DVD High-Definition DVD Player

I did the same thing. I still have my add-on, and it's nice to have the option to play HD DVDs on both my HDTVs, but i've been using the A2 a lot more often then the add-on.

Yes. ALL HD DVD players are required to have ethernet ports and can be used to get updates through them.

This is one big difference in the specs for blu-ray - blu-ray players are not required to have an ethernet port, except if its profile 2.0.
