Sony is reviewing it's pricing strategy and hints at a price cut possibly in the coming weeks or months. Personally, I don't see how they can avoid this considering Toshiba's aggressive pricing, as well as the success of the Wii and MS's soon to be released Elite model.

Price cut from $600 to $500 would be most likely, whenever they decide to do it. I'm surprised though, that they would pull the lower end 20gb PS3 and then turn around to announce price cuts for the 60gb model.

Well, if they are losing $300 on the 20 gig model and they drop the price of the 60 gig model to $500, that would mean they would have to lower the price of the 20 gig model, losing even more cash. So dropping that model all together makes the most sense.

I hope a price cut doesn't come, but i'm obviously a biased person. However, it will be great for consumers because that will simply force Microsoft to respond with a price cut of their own. Producers will lose, but consumers will win along with developers who will now have a greater install base to sell their games to. I really wish Microsoft would hurry up and drop the price on their X360 HD-DVD drive, as those sales have been tanking with the price war on the stand alone HD-DVD units.

Yeah, MS will probably have to drop the Elite model to $400 (lets face it, why pay $480 for the Elite when for $20 more you get a built in BD player, Wi-Fi, and still get HDMI and a decent sized HDD?) and the Premium to $300. I say kill the Core model. And let's see the HD DVD add-on go to $150.

I have no idea how well the Elite will be received. Im not buying one. My 2 HDMI ports are used up, and I still have over 10 gigs of space on my HDD. I don't need the upgrade. In any case, MS did up the ante with the Elite, so it may be more attractive to new buyers because it is still considerably cheaper than the PS3. Unless Sony drops the price to say $500, which was my point.

I'm not sure if Microsoft should kill the core. Sure an overwhelming majority are preferring the premium X360, but there are people out there are will be willing to pay for a core, but not willing to pay for a premium. Why exclude this market when its not like offering 3 separate sku's is going to really impact their costs. After all, I think the Elite should drop to $400, premium to $300, and core to $225 which would put it right in the same price range as the Nintendo.

they seem to pretty successful with everything else they put out, why not this??

That and a 100 dollar price drop for the ps3 still isn't enough.. the unit should sell for around 499 canadian, then I would buy one. As it stands now they are 699, WAYYYYY to expensive!

Next-Generation reports today that Sony says "no dice" on a price cut. I expected that though, since they didn't cut the PSP price for jillions of years even after the DS had stuck its head in the toilet and flushed.
