Has a new firmware update come out for the HD-A1?

I already have the firmware 2.0 update for the HD-A1 but I was wondering whether Toshiba had released another one since then?

No. Although the 1st generations were promised to be supported through 2008, nothing has happened lately. Although I have had no problems, some people reported skipping on some discs after updating. And there is the black crush issue, which I hope will be resolved.

Well, if they do come out with a new update can I just run a Cat5 cable from my linksys router into the back of the A1 or do I have to use the Cat5 straight from the modem? When I updated last I had Toshiba send me the disc so I don't know anything about using ethernet cable to update.

yes, you can use a router. there are settings in the player that have to be done correctly. DHCP must be on, and there is at least one other setting that I do not recall right now. It's all in the manual though.

Running straight from the router, the settings in the maintenance section of the A1 setup menus is DHCP=ON & DNS=ON.

That is all you need to do, and then select the CONFIRM button.

OR get the Linksys/Netgear Gaming Bridge (wireless device that connects to your Wireless Router just like your PC)...

That way you don't have to move the thing AND when Enhanced Content is available, the Player will be on the Net already...

Plug in the network wire first before turn on A1.
