Toshiba has provided better support than I have ever gotten with a CE product before.

1. They overachieved and provided MORE than I thought I was buying, with the updates and new features added for no charge.

2. They provided a price point that turned me into an early adopter.

3. They seem to have a well thought out format spec, that doesn't require you to buy another next generation player to get all the playback abilities the format has to offer (i.e. SD DVD, CD, & most important HD audio decoders built-in). No need to buy a new receiver until I am ready. No need to promise something in the future to get what I bought NOW.

4. And they make me confident that my choice of HD-DVD was a good one.

I agree with all of the above as well. Bottom line is that Toshiba just made a better product.

For those movies I've just got to have and their not out on HD-DVD but out on Blu-ray, I'll just get the SD version and their upconverted PQ will look 99% as good as if I had the Blu-ray.

What has either Sony or Toshiba done for you to command such loyalty besides sell you a player?

My loyalty's not blind at all. I'm loyal to the brand/format that treats me well.

When I bought the A1, I bought it with the understanding that its TrueHD capabilites were limited to 2-channel only. A couple of months later, they gave me a free upgrade to 5.1.

When's the last time Sony gave a feature away for free? When's the last time they gave a feature awat for free to people who already owned the product?

GLOW has been owned yet again..

Back to the thread.... IMHO, with all due respect, its pretty a useless one. If you don't plan to buy an high def DVD player, then why post in an HD DVD Players form to announce your executive decision? Do we supposed to change your mind? We are all aware of your talking points as to why you won't buy either. Thats fine; its your choice. Enjoy your decision and move on. Next topic...

What a load of scabby, close-minded tripe from a rabid fan-boy.

HD DVD players have been far better than the Bluray players, and more features...

Almost everything "glow" says is a distortion of fact - oh well...

HD DVD has more movies out, and they are almost all better quality than the bluray releases.

All the more reason to sign the studio petition - just to clam-up people like "glow".

Neither format has made me want to run out and buy a player and discs. High-def movies can be very impressive but there are too many problems on both sides. HD DVD has awful studio support and not enough lossless soundtracks, Blu-ray is just getting over a rough transitional phase and doesn't have enough outstanding transfers for me to get excited about. Neither format is selling well, and there just aren't enough quality titles out on either side. I'm hoping in a year thing will be different. I won't hold my breath for a dual-format player. I'd rather just see HD DVD die. It never deserved to exist in the first place and IMO doomed both formats to a niche audience and a short existence. Microsoft used HD DVD to further their own agenda, downloadable movies. I feel sorry for the suckers who actaully trusted Amir and the gang about the wonders of VC-1 and HD DVD. I'm ready for some extensive HD VOD but I doubt we'll see it within the next couple of years... I'm hoping Apple can come up with a quality h.264 movie download service, I'm not interested in helping line Micro$oft's pockets anymore.

Exactly what the previous posters have just said above this post. Toshiba overdelivered and provided one HECK of a value for the money.

$800 doesn't really come to mind when you say cheap, especially for a player that's not "full-featured" as you call it.
So are you saying Blu-ray is too expensive for you? Join the club, the HD DVD fan club.

Finally, HD DVD did exactly the opposite of what you claim. It did not doom both formats to niche status. It stopped Sony from pushing a substandard, over priced, inferior quality, high def format on the public. If anything, it may have saved Sony from once again shooting themselves in the foot. They were forced to keep up with the competition, which by the way they have been very slow in doing. How arrogant can Sony be?
That is your opinion and you are entitled to it, however you are way off. HD DVD has done nothing positive except raise the bar for transfers/compression and promote Micro$oft's new baby, VC-1, for future endeavors.

They gobbled up all of the blue laser supplies for their precious PS3, (which, by the way, appears to be an adequate BD player, not the saviour it was supposed to be.), to the detriment of the other companies manufacturing BD players.
What other companies? You are making stuff up now? Tell me what company had to delay their BD players because of the diode shortage.

which I can't see happening, it will be in large part due to HD DVD forcing them to give consumers a quality product.

Look at all these gamers coming to post in the player section! Did you guys rehearse this attack on me over in the Gaming forum?

When did I ever say Sony isn't using the PS3 to push Blu-ray? It's pretty damn obvious to me and I've never said otherwise. Don't confuse me with some random Sony fanboy. I don't like even like Sony that much. I love their products but they make awful business decisions.

It's getting very stinky in here.

Can we deposit this substance outside and lock the door to the forum yet??

Debate is one thing - but this entity is now just 100% trolling...

Neither of them have done a thing for me. I actually am not a big Toshiba fan as I have a portege tablet and had issues with their customer service.

Microsoft made an add on for the 360. HD-DVD has all the features I want, is at the price I was willing to pay and I love Universal.

I also figure - If bluray does happen to win, by the time that happens, I'll be able to pick up a bluray player for $200-400. So overall I still wouldn't have paid what some are paying now for bluray players.

Revolv attacks me yet doesn't challenge my bloody info. Typical HD DVD fanboy, if I may be so bold.

I've challenged nearly every piece of info you've put forth. You typically either ignore me or brush off my posts without addressing what I've pointed out.

Typical BD fanboy, if I may be so bold.
