I know this section is like abandoned, but Im awfully confused about the Toshiba HD-A20. Im waiting for my new audio receiver, and an A20 replacement.
Supposedly this thing supports DolbyTrueHD, but Im getting conflicting info online. Does the A20 output Dolby TrueHD or not? If so, would I use optical or HDMI. Im getting conflicting info that the A20 uses HDMI 1.2, not 1.3, so it cant do DDTrueHD. Does DolbyTrueHD come through optical !??!? AAaaaaaaaaaargh. Why oh why didnt I go blu-ray back in the day. lol

You absolutely can not do truehd (or dts hd ma) over optical - I think any version of hdmi will support it though

, thats just what a lot of blogs say in searching.Im Blu-ray AND HD DVD Rizz, hard to let go of 100 HD-DVD's. sigh

This oroduct description on amzon states irt can bitstream dolby true hd (and dts hd-ma)
http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-HD-A20.../ref=de_a_smtd Also I remember at the time this player was a big deal due to it's upscaling and supporting lossless codecs ( I don't know that it can do on board decoding however) - hope that helps.

Lossless bitstreams require HDMI 1.3.
Multichannel PCM with player decoding works with HDMI 1.1. 3D requires HDMI 1.4. |

All HD DVD players will internally decode TrueHD, either through HDMI or 5.1 analog. It was a mandatory spec. The XA2 and A35 players will also bitstream TrueHD as well as DTS-HD master audio.
