Hooking up DVD/TV/TunerAmp

Several issues:
I have a Yamaha RX-V373 TunerAmp, a SONY BDP-S360 DVD/BluRay player and a VZI M420NV flat screen TV.
1. When I connect DVD player to TunerAmp via HDMI, TunerAmp to TV via HDMI and the TV audio to TunerAmp AV-4 port via fiber optic cable, when adusting volume via TunerAmp remote the DVD video shuts off for a few seconds while the volume adjusts but the video continues to run on the DVD player. Thus losing portions of the video along with the very annoying pause in the picture.
Also,TunerAmp is designed for surround sound but I have only two front speakers connected. During video, volume automatically increases and decreases as if TunerAmp is trying to locate additional speakers.

2. In attempting to correct #1, I connected DVD player directly to TV via HDIMI and TV audion to TunerAmp via red/white analog audio cables. All works well for DVD stereo cd's but not for Blu-Ray DVD's. Is this because Blu-ray audio is digital and not analog?

How can I get all this equipment connected properly so volume controls work properly and DVD stereo and Blu-Ray work through same wiring configuration?

I think the remote code needs to be changed, it may be interfering with the dvd signal. blu ray sound is usually HD and it needs to be set correctly. The disc has a menu, set the sound to pcm stereo, as you lack 5.1 speakers. Also, make sure the amp is set to stereo also.
If you suspect the remote codes are ok, then remove the optical line and see if that changes anything. It could be the tv has audio return, sending a sound signal via the hdmi.
