Default HD DVD must owns

Planet Earth is a must, although the lack of any extras on the HD DVD, when they are on the regular DVD is a waste.

Galapagos by the BBC is even more stunning visually than Planet Earth.

Other gems are Zodiac, shot in Digital and at 3 hours long makes it worth the money.

Right now I am watching HD DVD of Naqoyqatsi and is looks amazing.

Blade Runner was the first I bought and if you've never seen a HD DVD, the opening scene with the city in the dark and the flames is a great intro into the HD DVD Blu-Ray world.

The UK release has all the extras in tact on both HD DVD and Blu-ray (The set contains an extra disc to the US release).

Must haves for any HD DVD collection? HD DVDs

I have to say my favourite HD DVDs are Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Mr Bean's Holiday. I also loved Serenity, Pitch Black, Dawn of the Dead (remake) and The Hitcher was a pleasant surprise. Just to suggest some less "mainstream" films.

Only one mention of King Kong???(thank you bigloww). It certainly is acceptable of an honerable mention. After all, it was really the first big release for HD DVD. PIC quality and sound quality come up to about 7 1/2 - 8 stars in me book.

While maybe not HD DVD's finest hour in video quality, The Sting is still a wonderful, perfect in every way movie. I hadn't seen it in its entirety since the theatrical release in 1973. In the days before video, everybody went to the theater to see that one. Seeing it again under near ideal circumstances at home was sheer joy.

The Chronicles of Riddick was my first HD DVD,the PQ especially during the bounty hunter scene when they're chasing Riddick is nothing short of breathtaking. Swordfish is also a great disc, (even the SD version looks like they filmed it with HD cameras) having stellar PQ and surround sound ,near the beginning when the C4 explosive ignites on the hostages and the police..WOW
