I have to agree. They did a terrific job in all respects.
I will attempt to break down this 5 disc set for those interested.
I just spent the last week watching all 5 versions. Then I watched The Final cut with all three commentaries. The Ridley Scott commentary I though was weak. As was the second commentary. But the third one with Syd Mead etc. was great.
Dangerous Days: Making Blade Runner was a very good extras disc with a lot of insightful commentary. Standard Def though.
The 3 versions on disc 3 are great for comparing all the different versions.
Dis 4 extras includes rare footage of Philip K. Dick (among other things), and well worth watching. Again, Standard Def.
Disc 5 has the super rare workprint with commentary by Paul M. Sammon. This disc with and without commentary is a must watch.
Last but not least is "All Our Variant Futures"; another must watch. The people involved in remixing the audio for the final cut explain how they did it. And it wasn't easy.
Note: The workprint is not available in SD. SD is a 4 disc set.

Well I finally got around to watching my Bladerunner HD DVD.... All I can say is WOW!!!

I swear it was like I was watching the movie for the first time.

Id give it a 6/5 on video
and 6/5 on audio.... All studios need to see how it is done and watch this movie.

Blade Runner and the Kubrick films are enough reason to have a HD player IMHO.

The only thing with the Kubrick films was A Clockwork Orange. I have always liked this film, but I read the transfer was horrible so I did not buy it. I am still waiting for my free copy of Full Metal Jacket to come by mail.

The Kubrick films has awesome transfers. The only one that was sub standard was the original release of Full Metal Jacket with the white cover and helmet. The films are all in the correct theatrical aspect ratio for the first time. 2001 is stunning, especially when it is forty years old.

I hope they release the other Kubrick films soon. But six was a great start.

Wow...

I know this thread is older, but I just had to add my two cents here. I just got this over the weekend and I was just floored by the quality. Next to Planet Earth this is definately the most stunning picture I've seen yet.

On the subject of the film, I was totally taken back by it. I saw it in the drive-in as a kid and I fell asleep, which kinda kept me from ever watching it again as an adult and boy was I missing out. What a fantastic film...

Call me thick-headed, but I'm a little confused at the ending.

**spoilers I suppose ****

I'm assuming Rachael is not going to live long and he knows it right? But if she is some experiemental version superior to the others, do we assume she will live beyond the 4 year limit the others had?
Why do they have to run exactly, I know his boss mentioned her in the list of replicants that he had to wax, but why? Did she do something wrong?

What about Edward James Olmos' character...
So, he knows Deckard is having an affair with Rachael, but does that mean he isn't going to turn them in, or is that who they are running from?

Also, am I crazy, or are you supposed to be considering the possiblity that Deckard is a replicant too?

"Let me tell you about my mother". All replicants were outlawed on Earth. Tyrell was keeping her himself but since he was now dead... This is one of my all time favorite movies. I still don't have it on HD-DVD but I will be getting it VERY soon.

Better get it now then because they will be gone permanently before you know it. I got the Ultimate 5 disc collector's set for Christmas and am extremely pleased with it.

Oh, duh... I forgot just their very existance on earth had been outlawed.

As far as the box set goes, I personally only bought the regular collectors edition and now I'm kinda regretting it. I don't really want to have to find someplace to store that briefcase, but I'd like to have the little collectable things that are in there. If I see it in firesale I'll probably buy it again. Or maybe get it on BD when I make the jump...

What a great movie.

I hope you can find one because only just over 100,000 were made on HD DVD.
