I was considering picking up Netflix for $9/month streaming over my Xbox. Do the movies play in 5.1, or are they planning an update to do this? I read that they are starting to carry more HD movies at least.

I have been a NetFlix customer before the streaming video stuff. Now with that being said it was a no brain er for me. I haven't really noticed it. I look at a lot of old movies and TV shows. I'll fire up Pearl Harbor in a bit and play closer attention. For me it's no biggie. I'm going to say I haven't noticed it I going to say I doubt think so. I haven't seen any HD stuff. Heck it's worth it. Which is free for me.

NetFlix is offering more BluRay discs via US Mail. I have watched a few segments streamed thru Tivo but not enough to state an opinion other than it is watchable. If you want BluRay DVD's by mail then add $3 to your monthly bill. The selection is much greater on disc as well.

Are you sure about that? According to this link (and from my experience), that is not the case. IME, sound is stereo with voice in center channel (I think)..no sound from rear channels.
http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/19/d...ming-shootout/ Before we crown a winner, it's important to note that Netflix streaming involves a pretty major tradeoff -- a huge part of the movie experience is sound, and Netflix doesn't offer any surround audio at all. You're stuck with stereo no matter what, and while we know Netflix is working it,

If they offer real 5.1 in the future that's all good and fine. The HD video is pretty darn good on most of them, but certainly not as good as BD or even the best HD broadcasting I've seen. For movies where surround is not that important, selecting Pro Logic works well for me on some movies. There is a fair number of BD movies with lossless audio processing that only have average audio quality overall.

No it's not perfect but for someone on a tight budget it's a TON of enterainment for cheap. For $9 a month it's great. A friend has The slowest ATT internet and it handles it fine. His kids are really happy.
I forgot here is a link that you can view the list of movies. I bet it works on a dial up... http://instantwatcher.com/ Quote:

I have to agree. I like to download TV shows and old movies. But for the movies where sound is important. I am sticking with Blu-ray. I am still on the 2 disks a month plan.

I still have 3 at a time until they come through on their promise to add 5.1 & Closed Captions (which are needed more with only stereo sound). Sound is as important to me as PQ so I don't use their streaming much.

I would prefer more streamable HD content over 5.1 sound. My receiver's dolby pro logic does a pretty good job of simulating 5.1 sound with HD content. 24 on netflix sounds just as good as it did on Fox in my experience.

It happened with PS3s on 10/25/10. I have checked it out on my PS3 and very very few titles seem to have it despite a few in my instant queue being "HD" (really only equal to SD DVD not HD). So there are few that I have found that have DD+5.1 and even the new Star Trek movie is only in stereo.
