Washington, D.C. (May 28, 2008) -- TiVo announced today that it will soon offer Disney HD movies via Internet downloads on its Digital Video Recorders.
The service will be available to owners of Broadband-enabled TiVo DVRs, including the $299 TiVo HD set-top.
TiVo said the movies, which will also include standard-def versions, will be provided by CinemaNow, the Net-based Video on Demand business. However, the DVR service did not say when the Disney films will first be available other than "later this year."
TiVo and Disney said they will offer the movies for a 24-hour rental period, meaning viewers will have one day to watch them after initially ordering them.
"Adding Disney movies really delivers on TiVo's promise to offer the best television entertainment experience with unlimited content choices that are easy to navigate across broadcast, cable, and broadband using one device, one remote, and one user interface," said Tara Maitra, TiVo's vice president of content services.
