HD DVD Owners Group

Group Created by PFC5

This is a private group for just long time owners of the HD DVD format to have private group talks.

Call it a "therapy group" now that HD DVD has been abandoned.

The only CEM I can see building a BD/HD DVD player in the future would be Toshiba and I just don't think it will happen.

People will have better luck building HTPC's with multi drives in them.

Well it looks like HD DVD hasn't seen its last release yet, as Death Proof will very likely get released in Germany next month.

Blu-ray will probably succeed to a respectable extent because it has two things going for it: 1) it looks and sounds just as good as HD DVD, and 2) it's on 5" optical like DVD and consumers have been buying 5" optical for about 25 years now. I might add that while HD DVD is 'dead' going forward, it has the same practical advantages as Blu-ray. Therefore it makes it ever more likely that we'll see a combo player since it's relatively easy to incorporate HD DVD playback into the same drive (I already have 2 combo players and they work great), and since HD DVD will always look as good as Blu-ray, the demand to play existing HD DVD titles will be there as well.

Ahhhh . . . . the format war. An exciting time in the CE industry.

And on the forums it was a true war . . .

A war of words and wits and . . .

    Hee Hee Hee . . .

They killed the messenger for the message!

Let's see how many remember my famous (or is that infamous ) Blockbuster Fiascio.

BBi announced that they were going to only support BD after their 6 month 250 store trial between the 2 formats.

I posted 3 copies of the same thread () titled; "The War Is Over - BD Won!"

So how much flack did I get for that? Remember?

Yet, as hindsite is 100% crystal clear . . . . I actually forecasted the future - about 7 months early.

Thanks guys. I only have 26 movies but I really don't want to rebuy them in BD. I think I will check out ebay though, thanks for the suggestion. Not really sure why I didn't think of that earlier, it would be nice to be able to watch my movies again.

My boys have been on me to watch Polar Express, I don't want to buy it in SD, I would much rather replace my A2 than double up on movies.

myturn is exactly correct, although the maturity level has started decreasing a while ago. It shocks me that some of these people are actually parents. Others are just young kids who simply have nothing better to do and decide to hang around rather than doing something more productive

I love it when BobY responds to our own Super Blu Bots.

    I almost feel sorry for them . . .

Before Toshiba threw in the towel there was some lively discussions. Now the site is much like the blu-ray forums so why post?
It does appear that the maturity level has decreased over the past few months and I am just waiting for the mods to start threads for "juveniles" only and another for "mature" only posts.
