That's one thing Microsoft has covered - the processing is done in Natal itself - the Natal unit has 2 cameras, microphone and processor.

I hope so, I'm actually really looking forward to it. But if it doesn't it'll have either a significant amount of problems or a significantly high price tag (or both). I guess we'll see once more about it starts coming out (real stuff.. not Milo.) |

I don't think there will be any issue with Sony's camera tech, they were the first console manufacturer to use camera technology for game control starting in 2002. I believe the Wands are purely to ensure a standard configuration so that developers know they have the buttons etc as well. If Natal is going to require additional controllers on top of already having to buy the camera, they're going to find they've got a seriously split up audience.
It's already risky doing such a peripheral so late in a consoles life with the intention of making it a standard for the system (for both Sony and Microsoft) as there are already around 50 million owners of the systems without the technology who may not (and if previous peripheral sales for systems are anything to go by, probably will not) upgrade. The Wii really has a huge advantage there, in that the entire control configuration is given as standard with every console. Wii Motion Plus on the otherhand... should developers choose to make a title Wii Motion Plus only, have to hope enough of their target audience have (or are willing to) purchase the add on. It only costs a tenner bundled with games, so it will be interesting to see how much penetration into the Wii userbase it gets.
