Speaking on the Kojima Productions podcast last week, host Sean Eyestone confirmed the studio would not be reusing the same game engine from Metal Gear Solid 4, but instead creating an entire new one for Rising.

"We're redoing the engine from scratch, and it's going to look amazing," Eyestone said.

"It's going to be a big project like Metal Gear Solid 4. The entire team is serious about making it look as good as possible on every platform."

As if there was any doubt from us gamers. Metal Gear has always strived for graphical greatness. It will be interesting to see how the studio handles this major multiplatform release, though.

it'll be interesting to see how this one will look over MGS4, it would make sense to use a new engine since i believe kojima stated long long ago that MGS4 could not run on the 360 (probably cause it was not programed to) so instead of reprogramming a older engine it makes sense to just start from scratch.

Yea I doubt it was be another tactical espionage game, but at least they are changing the main character and hopefully switching up gameplay to even it all out..

Dunno... I'm not surprised that it won't be on the MGS4 engine, nor will I be surprised if the graphics are even better (newer engine, yadda yadda yadda)

Will be interesting though, and yeah I can't really imagine Raiden doing 'tactical espionage' either

I'm not surprised at all by this news. MGS4 started development in 2005 so some of the graphics are pretty basic (bland textures), the current year is 2009.

Its pretty obvious Kojima is trying to distance himself from this one and Peace Walker (PSP exclusive) is going to be the next true sequel. I bet kam is right, this will be a hack n slash game. Not straight up hack n slash but I'm guessing they will go that route to please..... the other western gamers.

If there's a boss battle that tops the Raiden v Vamp/Snake vs MG Rexs, then my mind will be blown.

Maybe there will be a boss fight where you'll get to shoot 500,000,000,000 .50 caliber rounds into some teenage girl and then after 20 minutes of scripted battle, you can watch a cutscene where the girl isn't even bleeding, and then you have to run away from her while she tries to hug you

Yeah that boss battle was a pain in the ass. Took way too many shots to get to the cutscene. However, the Raiden/Snake splitscreen battle was incredible, and the end battles in MGS3 and MGS4 haven't been topped by any other game I've played. Let's hope Metal Gear Rising follows suit.

i hope this one has more than 20% game play and 80% cut scenes. but no matter what they do, after the last one i played i dont ever think i will be playing this franchise again.

after playing (and never finishing) MGS4, sadly i feel abit the same way too... i stopped playing MGS4 like a week after i got it, i never beat the first boss, thats how bad it was

.. i just didnt get into it and i found it extremely difficult.. i could BARELY "sneak" anywhere, i dont know if i just plain and simple sucked at it or what...
