Default Microsoft has Full Body Motion Controller

http://kotaku.com/5236404/microsofts...oller-revealed

Quote:
Microsoft says that it will "completely transform how people think about home entertainment" at this year's E3. A newly rumored motion controller that detects "full body" movement may be what the company has planned.

According to a report from Engadget, who cites an anonymous tipster claiming to have knowledge of Microsoft's Xbox 360 plans, the company is working on a new Wii-like sensor bar for the console that can offer motion control minus the actual controller.

Players will allegedly "kick, punch, duck, dive, jump and so forth with [their] body" and even be able to perform more precise controls like hand gestures for "pinching, grabbing and scrolling."

According to Engadget's source, the introduction of the controller will also introduce video conferencing, unique player detection, and will be used in online trivia games, with players clapping to "buzz in." Could they be referring to Microsoft's free online video game version of the 1 Vs. 100 game show? Could that be why the Xbox Live Primetime service was delayed until this year?

Microsoft's been heavily rumored to be exploring the use of motion control, but appeared to be pursuing more traditional efforts based on previous reports. The company's alleged new attempts sound like a more advanced EyeToy, which Sony employed in multiple, camera-controlled titles for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3.

Sony is similarly rumored to have a new motion control controller solution in the works, one that may be revealed at E3 as well.

While Engadget's grainy image is obviously suspicious in nature, we've heard from other sources that the information is mostly legit. With E3 now just a few weeks away, we'd expect speculation (and leaks) to reach a fever pitch by mid-month.

When contacted for comment, Microsoft reps said "We do not comment on rumors and speculation."

Sweet were getting closer and closer to gaming like they game in "The Island" I'm not really one for the current setup of motion controls but if they could pull some full motion stuff off that's natural sign me up.

It's actually a stereoscopic camera.

Let's hope there is some compelling software to go along with the idea.

Stereoscopic so it can capture your y/x/z motions.

It needs to be stereoscopic to get the z axis (torward and backward) motions down right.

So now I can get that cock fencing online game I've always wanted.

They're talking about using it as a head tracking tool for looking around in FPS games....but then you wouldn't be looking at your TV.

How the hell would that work? You would be looking away from your tv indeed, unless the it was very sensitive (which would probably end up making people motion sick)

Maybe it would be better used for controller-less games? Or maybe video table tennis? I could just see M$ putting out a 360 Beer Pong game (I'd buy it)

While having used a TrackIR3 on the PC market which tracks head movement for FPS, the feature is novel but after a while tacky.

Game compatability issues were probably what broke this for me, but the lack of a moveable display didn't help either.

You can turn your head all your want, the screen won't follow, so your POV is affected and it can actually hurt your performance more than help.

Not a good add-on in PC FPS, but was fun with some of the mini-games released for the TrackIR.

Costly. I'd never recommend it unless you got $100 beans to burn. Seems they got a new version too:

Developers don't seem to generally be able to ge their heads around the Wii yet... surely a full body mapping device would be an even bigger hurdle to get around before being able to make decent games that support it?

Kinda late to introduce new add on for a console. Maybe it will be bundled with a popular game at an affordable price?

If it works anything like the wireless mic then i'm sure this will be a turbo grafix or sega cd moment but MS style, kinda like Vista.

Man I love those Apple commercials......
