Post Acer H233H HD Monitor w/ xbox 360 Help Please

I just bought the Acer H233H stated in the description and specification page, it says its full 1080p 1920x1080 16:9. So I bought this because it can use HD devices such as the xbox 360. When I plugged the Xbox 360 through the HDMI port the visual graphics and text is blurry pixalated to the point where you cant play the game since its hard to see. I got the same results using another cable on another port too (HDMI to DVI) I tried all the options in the display settings. Its not even displaying, how a HD is suppose to be displayed. For a hd display this should of worked with no problems. The way I see it now is its worst than a Playstation 1 graphics. Just to be sure it wasnt the 360 I tested it on my standard TV works perfectly fine with no visual problems. I called up Microsoft support and we tried everything.

Before I even bought this monitor I checked out all the reviews on all the HD acer monitors and there were a lot of users/owners that said they had no problems with the 360. If only I could take a screen shot of what it looks like, its horrible.

If anyone has any idea on how to get this properly working please let me know thanks.

I noticed another thing for those who bought this monitor. If you have your xbox 360 connected to the HDMI port and have another device hooked up on the dvi or vga, when you press the input switch button it caused my 360 to restart. Im not sure if its just my monitor or if anyone else is having the same problems.

Do you think if I really used the Component to VGA it will fix the problem with the graphics?

The 360 doesn't require a converter.

They make VGA cables for it.

That's how I have mine hooked up.

Aside from not interfering with the HDCP in your monitor, you'll get a fuller range of colors vs HDMI as well.

(360 HDMI spec is 16-235, VGA is 0-255)

Oh alright I just placed an order for the microsoft vga hopefully that should fix my problem. Thanks for the help Ill let you know how it is when I test it out.

I just have a few more questions what pc monitor and resolution are you using? Overall hows the graphics quality? If its ok with you can you explain what you see in details.

I have it hooked up to a 60" 1080p plasma, but I've used it on my Acer LCD and it looks great at 1440x900.

The nice thing about VGA is you can set it to your monitors exact resolution so the video isn't scaled.

I wish the PS3 had a VGA port. It's my preferred HD interconnect

People think just because it's been around for a long time it's inferior to HDMI and component. That's just not true.

It pass the full RGB color spectrum(unlike component) and it doesn't have built in DRM (like HDMI).

i wonder if the HDCP on that monitor is causing a fuzzy picture?

HDCP = high-bandwidth digital-content protection

Implementation of HDCP requires a license obtainable from the Digital Content Protection, LLC, which then issues a set of unique secret device keys to all authorized devices. During authentication, the receiver will only accept content once it demonstrates knowledge of the keys. Furthermore, to prevent eavesdropping and stealing of the data, the transmitter and receiver will generate a shared secret value that is consistently checked throughout the transmission. Once authentication is established, the transmitter encrypts the data and sends it to the receiver for decryption.

Ya I wonder if it is the HDCP soon ill be able to find out when I try the VGA.

When I was using Hdmi to Dvi it gave me all the resolutions to choose from and I tried them all. They all look the same.

hello im new to these forums (names: EDD). I have the exact same monitor and i have been using it on my PC flawlessly using the DVI Port. I watch alot of blu ray on my PC and it looks Great and decided to buy a 360. I hooked it up HDMI and it looks terrible Jagged Edges/very Pixelated. I am going today to buy the VGA Cables because was reading here and on Xbox forums they say for monitors use VGA.

I will post up later today and let you all know what I found out.

i dont have the 360 restart issue that you have and i figured out my problem. I am still using HDMI but asking on the xbox forums a few people told me to run the COLORS in the ybr709 (not exactly sure of the numbers but its the one with 709 in it) and not RGB that i had it set at. So i changed the color option then put blacks on expanded and Bam issues fixed. I did not play with any monitor settings except turning on ACM everything default.

hopefully this helps.

I just had to be sure so I tried auto, source, rgb, 709 and the other settings again and no luck for me. I called up acer today he mentioned that this isnt suppose to be happening. He said its possible theres something wrong with the inverter or a chip in the monitor.

Before I send this monitor in for a replacement I'm still going to try the VGA cable whenever it comes in.

Ill keep you guys up to date.

there are a couple of things id do if i was in your shoes. Id lose the receipt and take it back and say i bought it a week ago and trade it for the same item or send it in before the VGA comes. ever since i figured out my issues ive been VERY pleased with it. i do see some jaggies in Gears of war 2 but who wont if your sitting 3 inches away. i moved my viewing distance back about 2 feet and it makes a huge difference as well.

I wa so dissapointed when i was using RGB because the colors were washed, it was very jagged and i couldnt get it to NOT be bright but now im blown away with the 709 that xbox recommended.

when did you by the monitor? is it still under warranty at the store. take it back

Ok heres the final results. I just got the Vga cable today.

Tested the Acer H233H 1920 x 1080 16:9 Hdmi to Hdmi, Hdmi to Dvi, and Vga

All failed quality is horrible the colors for all connections were really close.

So now I got my other monitor Chimei 1680 x 1050 16:10 Hdmi to Dvi, and Vga (The quality is a lot better than the Acer but was a but pixelated but atleast you can see better.

After that I tried 2 more monitors with the VGA cable I used x2 - 17" monitors. One was a LCD and the other was a CRT

With the 17" monitors It was the best quality similar to my standard TV which is what I wanted with the Acer Monitor.
