RROD Elite!!!????

Mine just bit the dust.

I upgraded to an elite 1 1/2 years ago and she bit the big one today. I've got her packed up and ready for shipment to mother fing MSOFT repair service.

Though I'm not totally shocked I am a little surprised that this happened to an elite. I have three questions:

Has this happened to anyone else’s elite?

Can I play with my gamertag and continue my games if I use someone else’s elite with my hard drive?

What do you think the estimated ETA will be.

HOLD IT! Is there a Play-N-Trade store in your area? We just got one here in North Atlanta and they can fix RROD's in store for a reasonable price! When i sent mine out around this time last year, i got it back in 3 weeks which wasn't too bad but i heard PNT gets em back to you in a day or two even the same way. So you might want to consider that option.

Yes, you can play on someone else's elite with your gamertag and saves as long as you have the game and the hard drive so your set if you can find another one.

And i actually haven't heard of this happening to many elites, but hey..its Microsoft. Once you get it back, you should get the upgraded cooling system that they're putting in them now and you should be set for the future.

Thanks for the advice....

I called them this morning, the closest one is about 1 1/2 hours from the house in Naperville, IL. They want $50 to fix but said it only works 80% of the time and does not re-extend the warranty. He said if it were him he would just sent it to MSOFT. So off to the UPS store I go, anyone want to wager on the return date?? I'll have my bro's elite on Sunday, he doesn't play the thing at all so I will attach the hard drive and will be rockin it on COD WAW next week.

If his console is only 1.5 years old he's covered by Microsoft's 3 year RROD coverage warranty. Sending it to a game store to be repaired would only void that warranty and mikeymo would be SOL and out of 50 bucks if it ever happened again.

Turnaround from MS is reasonable (for having to be shipped to Texas and back) about weeks from what I understand. Maybe you'll be lucky and get a Jasper chip set as part of the refurbish/repair! just remember to detach your hard drive before shipping!

I just pulled the trigger on a new Arcade with the Jasper chipset and moved my hard drive over from my RROD console while it goes back for warranty repair. There's much more info in the Xbox.com forums on how to find one, but I sorted through a few boxes at BB today looking for the following:

Mfr Date after 10/23/08
150W Power Supply
12.1a
Series 0842x or higher

When I get the repair back, I'll use it as a backup. The new Jasper unit runs much cooler and quite a bit quieter.

Kampsy's correct

They're going to do one of two things, fix your elite and send it back or send you a refurbished elite which, until Pro 60GB systems turned up with Jaspers about a week ago, had motherboards still fitted with Falcon chip sets.

My Elite RROD on me.

Once on its own, then my drive failed on my replacement, paid to fix it since it was 1yr outside the parts warranty, drive started to act up again, so I towel tricked it to RRoD and had MS replace it.

3 months later, drive started acting up again, finally replaced it with a Japser unit a few weeks ago and shoved it into a closet with my broken launch Pro (broken drive, and pass 3yr warranty time so not sure if induced RROD would be a good idea.)
