Default motorstorm PR demo impressions...

theres only two ways to get access to this demo, its available through Qore episode 4 or you get a demo disc if you reserve the game at gamestop

i got it through Qore ep4 and after playing it for afew hours now.. i must say i cannot wait for this game. being already a huge fan of the first one. this one improves in a number of areas..

first off the graphics are similar to the first one with a face lift (some will probably even call it motorstorm 1.5), some noticeable improvements are

- back ground audience are no longer flat stickers like part 1, this time they are actual polygons that move and wave their arms
- the vehicle now have full deformation (e.g. burnout crashs) where as in part 1, although parts of the vehicle would break off and as you race and take damage the vehicle would deform, the main body of the vehicle would never 100% fully deform when you slow mo crashed. in MSPR when i crashed into a tree dead on, the whole hood deformed inwords in slow mo. a little improvement over part 1
- the controls for the bikes have improved for sure! (thank god)
- the environments are really really nicely done

what i didnt like was that it still plays and feels like im playing part 1.. - also in part 1 the square button was used to knock other players off (if you where on a bike or atv).. now they changed this to R1:slam right L1:slam left .. so you have to use these buttons now to knock other players off
- theres some graphical glitches here and there like with shadows and collision
- you cannot look around 360 degrees like in part 1. (up down left right) MSPR now only lets you look left, right and behind.

i was always impressed with part 1 when you would pause the game, you can control the camera.. it was really cool. MSPR you no longer can do this

again this is just a demo but im hopeing the final game improves alittle more, in the demo i could barely make it to 2nd place, as soon as the race would start, everyone would kinda take off leaving you in the dust and then you would never see them again if you crashed once.. in part 1, the AI always crashed making them feel more real and was more "interactive" with you the player... MSPR AI now feels like very much like a typical racing game where as part 1 i always felt that the AI was so natural and almost as if i was playing against other players. what im trying to say is that in the demo, the AI was not trying to ram me or push me off as much as in part 1

i did not like the music in the demo.. it was like old rock..

what i wish the demo had was the new gameplay feature they talked about, in which you can create your own route referring to how things in the environment would be destructible and what not.. the demo featured nothing like that. the track in the demo was like a remake of raingod mesa but in the pacific (by the way, the name of this track in the demo was raingod spires)... this makes me think and hope that the tracks in MSPR arent just remakes of those in part 1.. i also like the boost sound effect in part 1 alittle more so then in MSPR....

btw, the monster trucks are very cool!

ouch, thats a very hard choice. both games are really good (base off the demo).. but they both are different as the gameplay are different and the game appeals to different audience.. if you want the more brutal, chaotic, insane off road racer while you ride a ATV and a huge monster truck is right next to you, then its motorstorm. if you want just one case of racing vehicles and dont care for the other and prefer to do air stunts.. then pure is for you. i like both but i prefer the more challenging insane brutal chaotic racer .. but i do plan on getting pure too (at some point in the future)

I think we have to keep in mind that this was just a demo, so all the bells and whistles may not have been implemented yet.

I only played the first one a couple times. Not really my cup of tea. I'll pass on the second one too.

Eddie, check this link out. This game is gonna look pretty sweet and significantly better than what the demo looks like.

This is the deal: Qore/pre-order-demo-disc users got one version and the press got another version which included the the same track as our demo PLUS the volcano track.
The track that both demo/pre-order-disc users and the press got are quite different in terms of graphics. The press has the better graphics. It is noted that the press has a game that is roughly 80% of the final version according to the "fine print". This could mean anything...80% graphics? 80% particles? 80% track length???

So our demo version is probably less than 80% complete.

By the way the crowd is not 3D, they are moving 2D objects...and they are always facing the screen. It's tough to see the 2D but you might with this link... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SGavcoMzTI

I was looking for other video to back up the difference between Motorstorm demo and the press demo but now I can't find it. Sorry all. IF someone does find it please post it as a reply to this message. Thanks!

WHOA!!! thanks for bringing that to my attention guys.. .. swweettt!! .. i knew this demo couldnt have been something like 80% or more, if so i was thinking to myself this is not a big increase difference from part 1 and infact part 1 in certain areas looks better. so this qore demo must be afew months old, my guess is that its a build from june and the more up-to-date build is probably from august. .. thank god. plus the game isnt coming out oct 7th like we all thought, sony officially gave a release date of oct 28, so at least thats pushing the date alittle more, wheww.. i feel alittle better now i preordered my copy at ebgames already (yea.. preordered.. and i never preorder stuff.. )
