Reason why I am also considering the PC version is because I have always been a PC gamer, and I don't like how the console versions lack in game type-chat. COD4 for PC has the traditional server-console/server list.
Try the Demos on your PC and see how high you can get them to run:

I'm on the fence for Atom, sounds promising, but I'll have to wait and see what Intel actually does with it.
Soon though.. soon.

Microsoft, Intel to fund multicore research at UC Berkeley

In the paper, they said the current evolution of programming models from single-core to the dual-core and quad-core processors available today from Intel and AMD won't work for a future where processors could have as many as 16, 32, or hundreds of processors. They set out to find a better way to develop programming models to meet the challenges of multicore chips.

Bioshock looks like a pretty good game, but I'm waiting to grab it for $20 for the PC. I generally prefer to play FPS games on PC.

Battlefield 2 isn't very taxing, but it does have a lot of loose threads in terms of programming. Lots of crashes, bugs, hardware issues, etc... I'm not sure if that's been fixed with recent patches or not, but it was still a problem about a year after release. It crashed randomly on my old PC, and nothing I tried fixed it. Everything else ran fine.

And as for AMD vs. Intel, I'm a long-time AMD fan: 5 of my last 6 PCs have been AMD, and I've used AMD in friend/family CPUs I've built. My current PC is Intel though. I can't speak for the newest generation of CPUs, but Intel really played catch-up in terms of value/performance in the past couple of years. I got my current CPU for $80, core 2 duo OCed to 2800, to hold me off until quads came down in price. Since my MOBO is Intel, I guess my quad will be, too.

What about that Intel Atom man? Hot stuff. Hot stuff.
i wouldn't say the Eee and its ilk are POS's; a niche market for sure but in a lot of ways they capture what a laptop really should be: light, small, travel friendly, and primarily a secondary device. ("primarily a secondary", good oxymoron me).

the Atom is clocked at 1.6 Ghz. the first review of a notebook with one just came out (the MSI Wind):

http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/msi-wind.aspx

anyway, as i've never really been into PC gaming, chips haven't really mattered to me at all. my roommate is a CS major and pretty hardcore PC gamer. according to him AMD's are better because of the architecture of the chip (might have to do with FSB, i forget).

also, one of my roommates friends is a game programmer who has had experience with the Cell/PS3. he hated it because apparently with the Cell, all threads HAVE to be used. this is pretty Greek to me, but does that have to do with the threads you guys were talking about earlier (Intel dual thread, AMD triple, Intel better because majority of programs are 1-2 threads)? what are threads exactly? are they individual programs such that one thread were to control AI, one particle effects, etc.?

So, we've concluded that AMD pwns Intel right?

Good.

Continue.
