Default Xbox 360 Sales Hit 10 mln in US

Microsoft said Wednesday that Xbox 360 has hit 10 million units sold in the U.S., and claimed that it is more likely to "win" the console battle, based on historical trends.

What do they "win"? A gift certificate to Bob's Big Boy?

That article was very revealing.

Basically Microsoft has 10 million units sold in the U.S. alone (not including Canada) and has 19 million worldwide.

Sony has 9.24 million units sold worldwide through the fiscal year up to march 08. That comes directly from Sony...

Nintendo has sold 8.8 million units in the U.S. with a grand total of 24.45 million units worldwide.

Seriously puts things in perspective... While Sony has been chomping on the bit to get higher monthly sales than Microsoft it has become painfully clear that they are still a long long ways off.

Umm, I think you're taking a part of that a bit out of context. If I'm reading correctly, that was just for the fiscal year. Not total. I don't expect that the numbers would be drastically different to include Japan's and America's launch numbers, but it would be higher than the ~9 million reported.

360's lead is entirely dependent on American numbers since the PS3 is leading in total numbers in Europe and Japan.

And well.. I doubt they have a 10 million lead in the U.S.

Oops you are correct! I didn't read the part that included the fiscal year 08'...

I am just going by what is being reported by each company. Although you are right to a degree, apparently Sony's numbers were only for the fiscal year of 08' which leaves out a 4 month window for the launch period were presumably 2 million units were sold. Which would bring it back up to my original prediction of a 7-8 million lead.

Of course these are all numbers reported by the manufacturers who have a vested interest in convincing people that their console has sold the most. Doesn't Sony actually only report on units shipped not technically sold?

I believe that's been their MO in the past... Understandably, but still.

ps3 worldwide sales is 13 million (only 6million short from 360), i cant recall how many of those are in U.S. alone(probably 5million).. but not many when compared to Wii and 360, certainly have alot more sales in U.S. .. Americans sure do love Microsoft. its hard to say how this generation is going to turnout but i would not hold my break at ps3 winning in U.S. with so many loyal M$ users in the states. in UK and JP PS3 will more then likely come over the top. but the Wii looks like the clear winner for this generation unless something dramatically happens and sales start to slow down bit time. but with so many young kids these days.. every parent is going to buy a inexpensive wii for their kids.

And Canadians.

The 360 has sold more in Canada than the PS3.

I think the difference is that in the US people are more likely to try something else. While in Japan, they tend to stick to their local brands and products they know.

Clearly if the Xbox had been crap, the 360 wouldn't have done as well as its done. But the Xbox was good and the 360 (hardware issues aside) is even better.

I think MS has already won as they've increased their market which is really the first step - you can't always come in and dominate right from the start.

the canadian market is so small. its almost irrelevant sometimes.. theres only like 30million people in canada, out of those how many do you think are gamers? .. not many. im not sure what the sales#'s are in canada but yea the 360 has sold more up here since it was out for a year longer then the PS3. but the PS3 is certainly catching up quickly, but like all other countries.. the wii still has sold more up here then the 360 and PS3 (probably combined too). i cant see myself ever getting a 360, sure i wouldnt mind, i wouldnt pay more then $199 for a low HDD and old generation dvd technology. but yea there are a small number of games i would like for the 360, but i just wouldnt have time to play on two consoles.. we already have the wii and though i dont play it, the wife and kids play it alot (mario kart and galaxy).. so to own a 360 also.. man i wouldnt even know where to put it, i have no space on my entertainment center anymore

Not according to this: http://forum.pcvsconsole.com/viewthread.php?tid=21708

But then again they haven't been keeping track of 2008.

The top of the forum shows the 2006 Canadian numbers and the last post shows the 2007 Canadian numbers. All in between posts show the monthly... Anyways according to their sources the 360 outsold the PS3 handily in 2006 and in 2007 the 360 over double the sales.

sorry, i meant worldly, not just one country (e.g. canada). the 360 has sold about twice the # of units then the PS3 in canada (e.g. 2million Ps3's=4-5million).. but the wii has still sold alot alot more..
