Following today's announcement of day one and week one sales of Grand Theft Auto IV, comes news from the other side of the Atlantic that the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV has sold more than 100,000 copies, or 20%, more than the PS3 version in the UK since the game’s release last Tuesday.

LONDON - 7th May 2008 — Gamers have voted with their wallets, and the results are in. The Xbox 360™ version of “Grand Theft Auto IV” has sold more than 100,000 copies, or 20%, more than the PLAYSTATION 3 version in the UK since the game’s release last Tuesday, 29th April. The groundbreaking latest instalment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise from Rockstar Games offers seamless multiplayer enhanced by Xbox LIVE® plus exclusive downloadable episodes coming this Autumn, making Xbox 360 the best way to experience this historic milestone in gaming.

Data released by ELSPA/Chart-Track shows Xbox 360 Week One sales at 514,000 copies sold in the UK. PLAYSTATION 3 version of the game sold only 413,000 copies, clearly demonstrating that gamers prefer the Xbox 360 version. Xbox 360 console sales jumped 125% reflecting the popularity of this franchise on the platform. Initial feedback from retail in other European countries reflects this great performance across the region.

“Grand Theft Auto IV has done phenomenally well this week with Xbox 360 version outselling PS3 in our stores,” said Gerry Berkley, Trading Manager at Woolworths. “Xbox 360 console sales have seen a big uplift off the back of Grand Theft Auto IV launching. It’s clear our customers see Xbox 360 as a great console for this incredible game.”

Xbox LIVE data shows that consumers are embracing the smooth, seamless multiplayer that is possible on Xbox LIVE – “Grand Theft Auto IV” is now officially the most-played game on the service, which is the only console online service to offer voice and Achievements in all games. It’s also the only version of the game that renders Liberty City in all its 720p high-definition glory. Other data, as of 4th May:

• More than 9.7 million hours of “Grand Theft Auto IV” online multiplayer played over Xbox LIVE
• More than 31 million hours spent playing “Grand Theft Auto IV” overall

Just curious, if the Xbox360 attach rate pwns the PS3, I have to go apologize to D-X in another thread

good question, but i think theres slightly more 360's in UK then PS3's, but considering the 360 hada year start too. i it was said the attach rate was higher for the ps3 though... and i dont think they count the sales# of the GTA4 bundle with the PS3 ..

Slightly more? Almost twice: ps3=1.2 million consoles, 360=2.2 million consoles

Man.... I dont trust anyones figures on GTA4 PS3 vs 360 sales...

"Chart Track issued corrected figures for first day sales for GTA IV saying the title sold 631,000 copies by close of business.

This single day figure is almost as much as the previous sales record holder, GTA: San Andreas, managed in its first week - 677,000 units.

Sales for GTA IV were almost evenly divided between the two consoles on which it is available.

Chart Track said that 55% of sales were on the Xbox 360 and the remainder on the PlayStation3."

Chart Track are the "official" figures source for the UK. There are certainly a lot more 360s in the wild than PS3s in the UK, it's a pretty similar gaming landscape to the US here atm, however a short hop across the channel tells a very different story, one of total Xbox apathy (which is why the PS3 has now sold more units than the 360 overall in Europe).

GTA remains a very strong "PlayStation" franchise, so I'd expect more copies of GTA4 to sell per PS3 than per 360. I wouldn't read too much into it either way for a consoles supremacy in the marketplace. The Wii usually has half of the top 10 here

With the DS usually picking up the rest barring the odd big name PS3/360 release such as GT5:P and now GTA4.

I believe the Team Xbox figures are correct, though I do think "sold 20% more!" is completely fanboy spin. The Team Xbox figures are for the first full week, Chart Track only announced Day 1 sales. I'd expect the 360 ver to start pulling ahead in sales now due to it's larger userbase. I figure there'll be more 360 owners interested in the game that havn't bought it yet than there are PS3.

The week 2 sales showed the Xbox 360 version commanding a far greater % of the sales, though sell through for week 2 dropped 77% on launch week.

And thats so dumb since the Wii Fit, at least from the vidz I have seen, is not really that effective in terms of excercise. Its such a gimmick; consumers really are clueless.

I have Wii Fit, it's actually really good and does exactly what it sets out to do, and just 20-30 minutes a day on it has seen me lose over half a stone in the past week or so.

It's actually more useful for correctly showing you how to do the stretches. Though the games are actually in large fun as well.

Mock Wii Fit all you like, I have no doubt it will be one of the best selling titles of all time.
