HD DVD and BD are no different image and audio wise? because no upscaler can make a movie look nearly as good as true HD.

if it wasn't that way then why would anyone bother buying a $1,000 player when you can get maybe the best DVD upscalers at $150.

THANK YOU!!!
Why are there people on this site saying how it doesn't matter that a game's primary resolutoin is 720P...it can upscale to 1080i/p?
I thought that was bullshit but didn't want to intrude this time. Man, I tell you, some 360 fans are just as bad as ps3 fans...always trying and trying.

You guys are killing me with this 1080p stuff. I read that the great looking COD4 does not run at 1080p for either console.... Isn't the quality of the game the most important thing...not some resolution?

This is old news.

I was very disappointed when it broke out that most of the games on the PS3/360 aren't native 1080 resolution.

None of the current "must haves" are 1080.

On the 360:
GoW, Halo3, Forza 1+2, PGR3+4, CoD3+4, and The Darkness

On the PS3:
R&CF:TOD, R:FOM, NGS, CoD4, Uncharted, GT:HD, and DMC4

This sort of sucks since we all bought these consoles on the promise of 1080 gaming. Most of those games I just listed don't even run at 720 native. If I remember right, 720 is the minimum for High Definition, anything below but above 480 is Enhanced Definition.

What a crock.

You guys should check out these forums, tons of info and they are the ones that broke the "OMG Halo3 isn't HD!!!" stuff.

It has been sony and their fanboys who have been hyping this "1080p true HD" nonesense. What will they say when higher res displays come out? This is "incredibly real HD"??

I wouldn't say it was just Sony.

The PS3 didn't even launch with 1080 output (for movies at least, and there were no 1080p games either.)

Microsoft launched the update which allowed internal upscale to 1080 levels.

Both sides hyped it up. Sony hyped it as a selling point over Microsoft, and then Microsoft fired back with "ha, we can do it too, and before you."

And this isn't Microsoft/Sony faults. This falls on the shoulders of the developers. How many times did Infinity Wards say "it will run at 1080p/60 on both system" well unless he meant upscaled on the 360/PS3 they were just as misleading.

Sony started this "1080p true HD" crap in their TV and BR ads and other HDTV makers followed suit. Toshiba, M$, etc had to jump on the hype because gullible consumers fell for it.

But what does that have to do with the videogame industry? I don't see games stamped with the Gold Emblem 1080HD logo on them.

Developers knew what they were producing, hell they made it, they shouldn't mislead buyers with their "check it out 1080p full 60 FPS and 4xAA" if they knew it wasn't going to run at this.

Bungie was huge on this and when they were called out on it their little girl response made me lose respect for them. They should have just stated it as it was "sorry guys, the hardware couldn't handle it" which is true instead of "yo, you get a super awesome HDR system with two levels, and you guys are complaining about the resolution, WTF!?"

1080-native is real on HDM content, it isn't as real in the videogame industry - I don't know how you stack them into one arguement.
