Default Blu-Ray's success won't equate to PS3's success

Now obviously it will help the PS3 that it seems as if Blu-Ray has won the format war. But I don't think it is going to push the PS3 past the Xbox 360. With Sony lowering the cost of Blu-Ray machines, buying a PS3 is no longer the cheapest way to enjoy the format. It will boil down to the games as usual. But to me, it comes down to the ports not the exclusives. So far, the slight edge goes to the Xbox 360 with smoother frame rates on games like Madden. The PS3 would have to start using its supposed power to outshine 360 games head to head. Once that starts happening, then a shift will occur. But there is no evidence of this happening as of yet.

So, using your logic, the Xbox 360 isn't successful because the Wii is doing much better?

That's just plain false. The cheapest standalone BD player is $499, and the cheapest PS3 is $399.

Not that it really matters or I care, But they have a few BD stand alones on the market today for $399. I know most of them are last gen models (Sony S300/S1, Panasonic BD10a and the Sammy BDP1400), but they are around.....

And I seen the Panny DMPBD30K floating around for $419 on Amazon, $479 at CC..

I think that I have also read that you can't update some of the BD players. The PS3 you can, because it is connected to the internet.
I guess this means that you won't be able to get some of the newer features.

Beating a system in consoles sold does not equate to success. For example, the Nintendo DS has sold over 50,000,000 handheld units worldwide. This is a pretty big number and probably seems pretty daunting for the PSP right?

Well the PSP has sold about 25,000,000 handhelds. Does that mean Sony should pack up and go home? The DS is clearly, and very obviously, selling way more units than the PSP. No, the PSP is still a very successful system. Both are very siccessful at what they do and it shows in their sales.

The PS3 may be in third place in terms of consoles sold (and that may or may not change in the years ahead) but I have no doubt in my mind that it will be a successful console.

The Costco by me has the Sony BDP's at regular price for $349 or less, while the cheapest PS3 bundle they sell is still over $500. Didn't Sony drop the price on their BDP's?

costco cleaned up this christmas with their bundled deals since that was all at was left in many areas of the coutry. Most people IMO wouldn't get bundles unless left with no option, which was the case this holiday season. Alot of people paid upwards of $400-$500 for a Wii bundle because they couldn't find them otherwise.

Lol, you guys have to quit comparing the HD consoles to the Wii. Not in the same league.

The reverse is actually a truer statement, if it wasn't for the PS3 Blu-ray would be nowhere. The PS3 is the only reason Blu-ray has been as successful as it has to this point in time.

wonder if blu-ray might've become blu-ray/UMD if Sony decided to use blu-ray only for the PSP!!!
