PS3: Drake's (un)Fortune with sales

Like R&C, yet another big budget, highly hyped PS3 exclusive selling miserably. Surely 3rd parties are taking note of this...

In arguably the month's biggest disappointment, Naughty Dog's PS3 debut, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, not only failed to show up in the top ten software sales for November, but only managed 117,000 sales, according to the NPD Group, during the two weeks it was available last month.

1UP contacted Sony Computer Entertainment America for comment, but we've yet to hear back. Granted, there were always fears Uncharted's pulp-influenced setting would be difficult to market (read: not enough space aliens, first-person-perspectives and bald space marines), and those fears appear to have been well-founded, unless Uncharted suddenly finds a hidden audience in the coming months.

To be fair, it did have a better first-month than Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (74,500 units), Warhawk (58,600 units) and Lair (46,500 units), but still fell behind Heavenly Sword's debut sales (139,000 units) in September.

true.. just not enough PS3's in the U.S. for a large enough install base. however, what makes me wonder is what the "F" are PS3 owners playing?! . and aint no japanese guy going to buy uncharted either.. they play the oddest games and mostly games that are made in their own country anyway(sarcasium)(ever seen a asian guy go to walmart and buy uncharted HAHHAHA). but check this out, it sold 117k in the month of november in the U.S. considering theres only like 2.5million PS3's in U.S. anyway, do they really except a PS3 game to be in the top ten and sell 300k in like the first week when theres still not a large # of PS3's in the U.S. (117k in two weeks in u.s. alone is still not half as bad again considering the # of units in u.s.) however in Europe the game sold 112k the first week alone.... (all in all to-date the game is at about a quarter million sold in u.s. and over 360k worldwide in one month/4wk period which is certainly not half as bad)...

so the big question..what the hell are americans playing on their PS3?.. the answer?... probably just bluray movies..

the losers.. oh well, cant win 'em all.. the game is amazing though with the sickest graphics

better yet, $21.6 million worldwide sales.. good question about the budget, i hear MGS4 is going to be a insane 60million to make?! *passes out*

I have no clue, if I didn't have a 360 I would be going crazy with just the PS3. CoD4, Rock Band,Oblivion and Uncharted are it's 4 best games IMO, and I bought the first 3 for the 360. The Orange Box is another great game but suffers from framrate issues on the PS3. So I agree ,they are probrobly just watching bluray movies, which is very sad considering how many awsome games the PS2 had.

i see it as, 2.9million PS3's in U.S. and probably half of them are used as a blu-ray player first then gaming system second. if thats the case then theres really probably only like 1.5million true PS3 gamers out there, and if thats the case having sold 117k in two weeks to a 1.5million market is pretty good. its true though.. alot of ps3's are not being used as a gaming system priority, i know in my case its a gaming system first, bluray player extra

I own a PS3. I did not buy Drakes.
I have been playing the old games on my PS3. And you know what? I LOVE IT!!!!!!
I play Resistance almost every day since December of last year and I STILL really LOVE this damn game. The online play is SWEET!!

I also play Motorstorm. They keep coming out with new content. The latest is mirror mode which just F's with your mind. I really have NO REASON to go out and buy another game when I just don't have time to play it...no matter how great it may be - (COD4). I MIGHT get a game in January - Warhawk - but unsure. I have never played a game on the PS2 as I've done with Resistance and Motorstorm. These are the two of my top 3 favorite games. My second favorite is Grand Theft Auto on PS2.

My friend just completed Drakes Fortune and liked it a lot, and he has a 360 and Wii to compete for his game time.

If that's the case, then the state of the PS3 is even worse than I really thought.

There are probably some other PS3 games I'd be interested in, if there weren't so many 360 games and HD DVD's I wanted. I've been far too busy with my 360 games and HD DVD's to have time for gaming on my PS3.

When the warhawk add on comes out, I will definetely be getting that though - that's a great game.

Not really true. GOW, GRAW, COD2, Oblvion, etc sold big during their first few weeks of sales. 360 gamers are the more hard core gaming crowd. GOW was released within a year of 360's launch and it sold over a million in U$ alone in less than 6 weeks, over 2 million worldwide. I think this years Madden sold more on 360 than on PS2.

That's sad considering the numbers of PS3's sold in the US that Sony is touting. I guess these people are too busy using them as a BDP to actually play games on it. We know that the PS3 is selling a bit better lately, so lets see how many copies of this game are sold after the holiday season when all the little Johnnies have opened their brand new PS3's they got for Christmas.

It's a shame that Uncharted isn't selling better. It has the best graphics of ANY game this generation, PS3 or 360.

Better than Gears of War, Halo 3, Assassins Creed, Bioshock? I think my BD huffing friend picked this game up a few days ago, so maybe it is time to pay him another visit to check it out.
