Default Playstation 3, firmware 2.00!

Firmware Update (v2.00)

+ Posted by Eric Lempel // Director, PlayStation Network Operations

Hi everyone. Here’s a preview of the next PLAYSTATION 3 firmware update (2.00) scheduled to release within the next few days. This update contains features that will allow you to receive news directly from us on everything PlayStation, enhance the way you access and organize your media, and allow you to customize your XMB in new ways.

Here’s a closer look at the new features:

You’ll notice this icon in the Network category of the XMB. This is the Information Board.

informationboardlogo

Once activated, you’ll notice scrolling headlines in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. We’ll be delivering the latest news on new games, PLAYSTATION Store updates, hardware, accessories and lots more through the Information Board. Click on the Information Board icon and you’ll be able to see all of the headlines and click through for more detail. The headlines and associated stories will be updated on a regular basis. You can choose not to display the Information Board, but you never know what you might miss, so I’d recommend keeping it on.

We’ve added a nice enhancement to Remote Play called Remote Start, to use Remote Play locally or from a Wi-Fi hotspot, you needed to make sure that your PS3 was on. With Remote Start this is no longer necessary. As long as your PS3 is in standby mode, you’ll be able to turn your PS3 on remotely via the PSP. You can then use Remote Play to access media on your PS3, and when you’re finished you can put your PS3 back into standby mode.

Another feature we’ve added with this update is the ability to set themes on your PS3. Themes will change the whole look of your XMB; the background, icons, and in some cases sounds on your XMB will completely change. We will be providing themes on PlayStation.com and through the PLAYSTATION Store. Once you have downloaded a theme, under Settings go to Theme Settings, select Theme and then choose a theme to display or install a new theme. We are also providing the ability for you to get creative and make your own original themes.

We’ve also added a new way to organize your photos and music on the PS3 - you can now create custom playlists for all of your music and photos.

Finally, regular readers of this blog may have noticed that I’m using a new avatar. You will see that logo above on your XMB representing the new PLAYSTATION Network category. You’ll find the PLAYSTATION Store and Account Management in this category.

We’ve added several other features in this update. I’ll soon be back with more details with a quick video demo of some of the new features.

As always thanks for all of your support and feedback.
unfreaking real!... its going to be a great update!!!!!! .. the only thing their still missing is in-game XMB access.. but all in due time.. all in due time.. i cant believe i'll be able to start up and turnoff my PS3 from my PSP.. i always dreamed of that and thought it was impossible.. holy crap thats amazing, plus customized XMB(similar to custom icons for the PSP) freaking ya! im not caring much for that bullentin information thing.. i'll probably keep mines off and i know for sure its not going to be popping up in the middle of your game HAHAHAHAH.. but still a nice thing to have, hopfully they actually provide valuable information via this bullentin board thing

I'd love to see what else they have included, because so far, nothing in that list interests me.

Where's the profile 1.1 or 2.0 support? What about some better organization for demos and such - my list is getting kind of long..

They already have the demos organized. Just go under demos & they're broken down into FPS, Racing, RPG, Sports Etc.....

The store is very well organized. I'm talking about having them on my console. Unless I'm missing something, they're all in one list.

I think you may be. Go under demos & they're broken up into genres.

Hey Strikuh!

Anyways, mshulman is talking about the demos that are already downloaded onto his PS3. They just show up as one long list and not categorized as they are on the 360.

mshulman, as far as I know there is no way to organize the demos that are already on your PS3 at this point. Hopefully that comes with a future update.

Yep, that's exactly what I'm talking about. My PS3 list is not nearly as long as the 95 arcade titles I have on my 360, but its still getting large. Will be nice if they include some more organization in this.

match the features?... oh i never knew the 360 could play HDDVD movies without the add-on.. when did that update occur!?.... oh wait.. wait.. nevermind... have some LoL (jj) ... and if im wrong shoot me but im pretty positive the 360 doesnt have/use custom icons.. im also certain you cannot "remotely" turn on/off your 360 without the controller (of course this applies to users with a PSP) im also pretty certain that theres no "news bulletins"(or whatever you wanna call it) on the 360 or 360 dashboard to inform you about news and updates and what not.. so yea.. the PS3 is REALLY trying to match the 360 features

anyway

actually yes there is a way to organize the games that are on your PS3's HDD.. it was included with one of the previous firmware updates (i think 1.9X or something). you just hit triangle to bring up the options and you'll see "Sorting". though you cannot sort it by "genre" yet

Yeah, tell the 70+% of the people that were forced to pay the extra $$$$ for something they don't/can't use (yet anyway). Great feature you were forced to pay for when you buy a game console. But for the other 25-30% ..

This update sucks. I want custom soundtracks, in-game XMB, and my PS3 to say "Goodnight, sexy" every time I turn it off.
