Default My day spent dealing with XBL............

well my XBL went down last thursday and for some strange reason would not go back up. here is my story of what i went through,

so last night i decided to call xbl support and see if they could help me. i called about 45 minutes prior to it closing for the night. so im going through their automated system where you speak the selections. for some reason no matter what i said the machine was sending me to a wrong department. i would say "customer service" and it would send me to billing. so i got a message they where close for the night.

then i call back and the same thing happens. so i decide to call back a third time and it's still 30 minutes to close according to the listed online times and the phone listings. this time it finaly send me to customer service but it sends me straight to the message "please call back during normal business hours" and follows it up with the hours to call back at. now i know i was close to closing but i was clearly within that time frame.

so today comes and i decide to take care of this early. i call around 10 am eastern. now i get sent to a lady who is clearly young and chewing bubble gum while talking one the phone. no matter what i say the connection test is telling me she says it is something else that is wrong. she starts blaming my router even though the xbox is clearly reading the network and giving full bars. so she has me do a direct connect to the modem which came back with the same issue. then she is still blaming the router even though it wasnt connected anymore. she then puts me on hold and comes back saying i need to open ports on my router and pretty much tells me by.

so then i call back only to explain my situation to some guy who doesnt know his azz from his elbow. that conversation took all but 3 minutes. he asks me to be put on hold then hangs up on me. so now im dealing with my 3rd rep. and he states he has an idea of why my xbl is failing. he says he gotta put me on hold for 2 minutes while he runs the idea by his boss so i agee. he comes back after about 45 minutes..................yes thats right i checked the power on my cordless phone and happen to see the time when he put me on hold and looked again after he came back on and 45 minutes had definetly passed and that is definetly not the worst part. for some reason when he clicked back on i could hear him but he couldnt hear me. he states "i got good news and a think i can help you are you still there". i reply with "yes im listening". only to hear him keep asking if i was still there. so at this point im screaming into the phone and hitting buttons. i can hear him typing info into the computer and saying how he figured it out to some other guy and im going crazy listening to him. just as he is about to tell this other guy what the problem was he hangs up the line.

so then i quickly call back only to get another girl who isnt interested in helping at all. she seems more concerned with taking me through all the power cycles and making me do every other basic trick to get it back up. even after explaining i have talked to so many support people today and did all this stuff 10x she still insisted i needed to do this stuff for her and if it didnt work she would try the higher level of stuff. so after im done doing all this basic power cycle stuff she tells me she is stumped and didnt know what else to try. i asked her about the other tricks she knew and pretty much put me on hold and hung up on me. i call back all pissed off thinking im gonna get all pissy at the first person who answers just so i can get through to the second tier of support and as luck would have it my comcast internet goes down for about 10 minutes. when it comes back up i call again and right when the person answers my internet goes down again. at that point i must have gave birth to new swear words that may never be spoken by anyone again. they where amazing glorious words that would make a bikers mother proud.

so finaly i get through the 2nd tier of support and even that guy was totaly stumped. he said he never heard of xbl failing with a direct connect and everything else passing (with the account being in good standing). he said this was a complete 1st for him and he has seen some wierd stuff while dealing with xbl (now im wondering what this guy has seen).

all that happened between 10am and 3pm yesterday. so my cousin comes over and starts up madden 08 and while he is playing for no apparent reason my xbl turns back on. so after all that b.s. i went through was for nothing. all it took was a little luck from my cousin who was born on st. pattys day.

Sometimes all it seems to boil down to in life is luck

I've never heard of an XBL connection failing with a direct connection, but wierd things do happen everyday.

on another note my Benz started having transmission issues that same day. i went to pick up my cousin and check my xbl at his house that day. on the way back to my place i was beating the hell out of my ride ( benz has some sick handling and smooth juice under the hood, way underrated specs ). suddenly the tranny wouldnt hit second gear and was hitting over 5 1/2 thousand rpms while going 39 mph. i decided to drive it a little longer up the road just to see if my cousin could diagnose the issue (went to school to be a mechanic). just as im pulling into a 7/11 my cousin turns to me and says your tranny is definetly blown. great first xbl is down and now this but at least my benz is brand new and under warranty but what a horriable day.

well after i get out of the store i see my cousin playing with the controls on the wheel. suddenly my tranny was working perfect again. hope you guys see what im getting at here, i missed the perfect day to send him into the 7/11 to buy me a couple lottery tickets and ditch him the following day.

So what was the problem.. did you turn off O/D or have it in the Low Gears for bad weather? I don't own an benz but I know some cars have those functions controlled electronically w/ buttons.

no the benz i own has auto overdrive so that definetly wasnt the issue. although it does have a sport and comfort setting which adjusts the tranny differently. i changed settings but still had issues with the rpms hitting over 5000 (max out at 7000). i own a automatic so it wasnt and fault of mine and the weather was clear around 85 degrees. im hoping it was a 1 time thing like my xbl. i just thought it was funny that in both cases my cousin who was born on st. pattys day touched the controler/steering wheel and in both cases the problem was solved.
