Exclamation Wonderboyseven's Halo 3 Review - I have finished the fight!

Okay, no story spoilers here......

Okay, I finished the campaign now, and it was somewhat underwhelming. I played it on heroic, and finished all 10 chapters in around 7 hours. Not a long campaign. The ending wasn't as satisfying as I wanted either.

The bottom line is this: Halo 3 does not live up to the MASSIVE hype that has been built around it on the campaign side, but multiplayer makes up for that in spades with the forge, the theatre, and a pretty good selection of maps. All 3 Beta maps are here, with some minor changes (Weapon selection and power up selections)

And not only that, but if you play Halo 3 in co-op mode with someone on the same 360, you'll get that same cropped non widescreen situation (from the beta) which takes away from the game visually and makes it a tad less fun to play. but make no mistake about it,this game is good. Good, but not GREAT imo. Finishing the Fight will leave you all wanting more, while the Multiplayer shines.

The weapons also are sick. There's now a flame grenade that was not included on the beta, and it indeed kicks ass, as well as the flamethrower. But with the Flamethrower, you have to be REALLY careful as burning enemies run towards you and burn you to death.
The Hornets, which is a spartan version of the Banshee is pretty cool as well, but slower than the Banshee is. But, It also shoots out dual missles. The new vehicles for the most part were pretty cool as well. There is now a seperate Wraith that is made to take out vehicles in the air.

Also there are new "x button" power ups as well. Those who played the beta will remember the Power drain, the Bubble shield, the air lift, and the trip mine. Now, a deployable covenant shield has been added, as well as what I call "the anti power drain" which gives everyone in this green radius a full shield. There's also a cool radar scrambler, which makes your radar appear to have 20 enemies swarming around your closest enemies radar. And there's invincibility. That one speaks for itself.

Multiplayer speaking, there are now no less than 10 specail helmets you can unlock to personalize your player. Customization options will make sure that not too many people will have the same looking player now. Also the ranking system reamains the same from Halo 3 beta, and uses a military ranking system, as well as the numeric system.

So, Halo 3's pros - Cool weapons, cool vehicles and power-ups.
Multiplayer options are insane. Intruiging story. Theater. Nuff said.

Now, Halo 3's Cons - Short campaign, Graphics are not awe-inspiring, same console co-op does not offer widescreen for the campaign and can only have up to 2 people(again, on same console campaign)

My conclusion - Well, can ANY game live up to such massive hype? Well, maybe. but I'm afraid Halo 3 just does not. Me personally, I was looking for a campaign that would last me at least between 10-15 hours, and I was also looking for a more satisfying ending that would bring this trilogy together and send it off right. but, that isn't what i got.

With all that being said, this is still a good game that will provide Live users with endless nights of fun. Just know that finishing the fight will not be the highlight of this game.

My review score, I'd give it an 8.5 out of 10. I'll bet this is what IGN reviews it at as well......

just like all reviews from IGN and others... its always around the hype, im at the point where i dont even eye-ball reviews from IGN or gamespot etc..etc anymore(for any console).. i like reading what people have to say.. you know, us.. the average gamers ... nice review by the way. i just watch the gametrailers.com review of this game and they say fair things (good and bad) about it...but still even with the flaws that the game has they (with no surprise) give it like a 9.5+... why you ask.. well its "halo" of course thats why. reading legitimate reviews from average gamers is where its all at for me now(and yea that goes for ps3 games too that have been getting out of wack reviews left and right, from high to low). glad the game is finally out though, i know alot of ppl have been waiting for this.. i cant wait to see what the sales numbers are.. holy moly!.

So there are, literally, NO review sites you trust? If it aint from J6P, its not something youre likely to even read?

You are kinda hilarious... the only review you like is the one that gives it a lower score.

Why dont you just admit that Halo has the hype because it has an interesting story, and even more amazing multiplayer capabilities. Grant, according to some of the reviews H3 has a short campaign, but we all know that its the multiplayer thats going to carry it well into the future.

i use to love to read IGN and stuff..but i find this generation of gaming for all consoles.. i just.. i dont know, their reviews are just getting so lame and out of whack, i dont get it(for both 360 and PS3 games). so no im not checking out sites like IGN, 1up, etc for reviews.. i look at what they score, but i dont bother reading what they say. the only place i so far dont mind going to(but i find they dont review that many games) is gametrailers.com .. but their rating system is lacking..(they only rate gameplay and design categories and i think thats it?)... but i like hearing their comments and what "they" say. i also love reading what the actual gamers have to say vs. someone(some ppl) that get paid for it you know what i mean. i only following up on sites like IGN for general overall gaming news and upcomings and of course for images and videos etc.. its just hard to trust review sites, everyone has their own opinion about a game a good example is lair, and though i havent played it, there a number of gamers i know that have it and/or played it and say the controls are not what the review sites say and yet alot of sites bashed the crap out of it for its bad controls, yet while some sites gave it a 4.5/5 or 8.5/10... it just makes you wonder you know!? and it goes for alot of other games too.

I understand why some could give H3 a fabulous rating, but IMO some things could have and should have been done better. And besides, I knew this game couldn't live up to the massive hype. But, in saying that, it is the best MULTIPLAYER game on the 360 now......

I thought that IGN would be a bit more "real" with thier review, but, whatever. As was said earlier, they feel they have to review high because of the hype.

I still think your score was fair, probably more so than the pros, simply because you are 'just a gamer'

No, you're 100% wrong. The score is LOWER because of their expectations. IGN completely ignored the other titles available when they scored Halo 3. To score Halo 3 lower than Bioshock is just insulting to journalism. Those two games aren't even in the same league. Thats like comparing an NCAA team to an NFL team.

Bioshock is a great game, but it will be nothing compared to Halo 3. I don't see how a game good for one solid playthrough could be ranked higher than a game that people will be playing for 3 years, and the ranks being on the same scale.

Point is, if this game had NO hype, it would probably be a 10.0. It is scored much more harshly because they expected something that was perfect. They said it wasn't a perfect 10 because you backtrack a tiny bit in campaign, and it was too easy with 4 player co-op. Such a joke of an excuse to rate the game lower.

Everyone KNOWS Halo is a multiplayers dream buffet. I really really think this is what MOST reviews are going to based on, because THAT is what has carried the game for years.

With this being the case.....the multiple options, forge, 4 player co-op, split screen co-op, etc etc. are probably just totally crazy and give the game MUCH replay value way into the future.
