Xbox 360 HD DVD Player Update Tomorrow
By: César A. Berardini - "Cesar"
May. 14th, 2007 4:12 pm

Amir Majidimehr, the corporate vice president of Microsoft's Consumer Media Technology Group, announced on the AVS Forum that a software update for the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player is scheduled for release tomorrow:

It is my pleasure to let you all know that the HD DVD udpate for Xbox 360 is slated for release on 5/15 (i.e. tomorrow!). So when you wake up in the morning, you should be able to upgrade your software. And me free from telling you when are going to get it . Hope you all download it and provide feedback on what you think!

Available since last November, the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player is the most affordable way to jump into the next generation of DVD technology, along with the flexibility to enter when you are ready. Just plug Xbox 360 HD DVD Player into Xbox 360 and enjoy the ultimate home theater experience.

you forgot to include this info.

This update is completely separate from last week's update, and includes:

1) Fix for DD+ audio compression problem
2) Fixes Audio synchronization issues (audio lag)
3) Additional option for DTS output (1.5 Mbps)
4) Fixes for disc specific issues such as with Digital Video Essentials, etc.
5) Additional option for WMA Pro output (1.5 Mbps)

there you go now i got my question answered.

Ya, I don't know why they didn't add that info on the page. I'm glad you did though, saved me looking it up.

great find though. i didnt know MS reps. where in the AVS forums. i have talked to various reps. from other major companies but not MS. over at that forum. i believe a engineer who worked for infinity designing speakers was on that forum for a while. helped me figure out what speakers would give me the best bang for the buck in the price range i was looking in.

wonder if they check out this forum as well.

I've been hearing on this forum that the 360 HD DVD Player update will be released today. Well, I just went online live with my xbox 360 Elite and no updates where available. I also heard that the official release date for the XBox 360 HD DVD Player update 'Firmware' would be on 5/22/07 Any suggestions?

its out you gotta throw in a hd dvd for it to update. after the movie first starts it will prompt you to update.

my thoughts on the update,

while not bad it isnt a big deal. dts isnt nearly as loud as dolby digital. i tried it today the the difference was clear. wma isnt an option on my reciever (the next one i pick up will though). for someone with the elite this may be a better update since you can transfer better audio over hdmi when hooked up to a reciever.

Default Stupid Question

Do you have to be on live to get the update? Is there any other way to get it?
Thanks

It should be up on xbox.com in a few days. Burn it onto a disc and throw it in the drive and you should be all set.

While I have had several issues with my console hardware, I have never had any problems with the HDDVD drive....untill this update. Now playback will randomly pause, 'freeze', if you will, and interactive menus are nonresponsive. It might resume playback, but it will be choppy, and still always requires a full reboot to fix. Second time around it will play flawlessly through where it previously started messing up, but the only thing that has changed since the previous 10-15 of competely perfect playbacks of this same hddvd movie has been this update. Have been satisfied with all the previous updates thus far, but I guess Im one of the only ones that has had problems with this hddvd drive update, as Im sure others would have mentioned it in this thread by now.

Hell, maybe it is because of my other console issues, thats causing these new hddvd playback issues, but I cant remember ever, not ONE problem, with hddvd playback before this update. Ive been a light user, own maybe 10 hdvds, all having been seen several times, with my favorite being veiwed several more times than that....U571, which is the exact same one thats messing up. Thats the only one, so far anyway, havent had the guts to check playback on any of the others as of yet. Wouldnt be surprised if the others mess up at some point during the movie, but will try to be positive through another $600 issue...hmm, think Ill check my second favorite, Superman II

that stinks, sorry to hear about this. did you try cleaning the drive anytime recently. i know where i keep my drive and systems it gets dusty (well i got cats and im in an apartment until i get my house in the next few months so maybe my situation needs more cleanings of the drive then a average person).

i havnt had issues with my drive since the update. i wonder if this is some random thing. i know it was fairly random for systems to brick up right after updates. my system never had problems after any update thus far .

hope it all works out for you.
