Lightbulb Xbox 360 Elite to be Announced on Wednesday?

As per TeamXbox:

Xbox 360 Elite to be Announced on Wednesday?
By: César A. Berardini - "Cesar"
Mar. 26th, 2007 5:20 am

Dean Takahashi, the author of 2001’s “Opening the Xbox” and 2006’s “The Xbox 360 Uncloaked”, has confirmed in his San Jose Mercury News’ blog the announcement of the Xbox 360 Elite.

"It’s true that Microsoft is preparing to announce the Xbox 360 Elite, a version of the game console with black plastic and advanced features." stated Takahashi in his a+e blog. "Several sources confirmed Microsoft plans to add this box to its product line."

Meanwhile, in the other side of the Pacific Ocean, Australian newspaper The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Microsoft Australia will make on Wednesday a "major announcement" to coincide with the first birthday of the Xbox 360 in the Land Downunder.

While unconfirmed, all signs suggest Microsoft will introduce a revamped "Elite" version of the games console, with new features such as a larger hard disk drive and a built-in HDMI connector.

The announcement, to be made within a week of the Australian debut of the PlayStation 3, comes as Microsoft faces the daunting task of keeping the Xbox 360 fresh in the face of renewed competition from Sony and Nintendo.

By now, the Xbox 360 Elite Edition (codename: Zephyr) is one of the worst kept secrets ever.

so 99% that this new 360 is true.. i'd really like to know if it indeed is going to have more features then its predecessor. so far the HDMI and larger HDD are the only difference and i doubt thats "advance features" to consider... i'd like to hear that its going to come with larger HDD, support for ANY HDD, HDMI, bluetooth compatibility, built in WiFi..hell everything including the kitchen stink, then they can call it a ELITE! 360, that'll certain be cool and spark a interest in me. or even hell introduce some "advance features" that the PS3 doesnt have.

I'd be semi-impressed if it had WiFi integrated... Something tells me that's not going to happen though..

I use component for my 360 and after basic calibration the picture is excellent. I've compared components hooked up through hdmi and component and I honestly don't notice any difference. As for the bigger hard drive, I'll just by a bigger one when they eventually come out.

PS: Then again if they have a trade in program where you pay 100 bucks to trade in your old 360 for the new one I think I might do that. But that will never happen.

the other "advanced feature" for the elite is that it will come equipped with the necessary firmware for the IPTV function (tivo-like device with internet protocal television).

also one other note...the elite will sell for around $480 in April, but then will replace the existing premium version in early fall and will cost $400. at first i thought this was kind of stupid since i expected the core system to be dropped, but it all coes down to dollars. m$ will replace the premium so that it can sell the 120g harddrive to all the core owners. either way, this means i will be able to get the elite version for free when i decide to bring in my 360 to BB with their free replacement plan......i am looking into my crystal ball and see that my 360 will develop "issues" right around december or january

It doesn't need bluetooth, the wireless controllers have a wide enough range. The reason I say they won't integrate wifi is that they're making a killing, literally, on that stupid wireless adapter... I don't know what part of that thing could cost anywhere near 99 dollars to make, it's pretty much pure profit for MS.

Wait... you know BB is going to have enough of the premium around to cover your replacement. The thing is M$ isn't going to stop making the premium so I think you might be out of luck with getting that free upgrade. JMO

actually, the word is that m$ is going to replace the premium with the elite. the only thing i have to do is wait it out til the regular premiums are gone, and then i can get my replacement. i am quite aware how the replacement policies work, so mine obviously will not develop issues til the regular premiums are gone.....

Quick question. Will you still be able to hook up the Elite via component cables or only HDMI? If only HDMI then I could care less personally cause I don't have 3 HDMI inputs on my tv. and 120G is something I will never come close to using for games
