i would say that the included blu-ray drive is really the problem for sony. it is kind of unfortunate, since as a blu-ray player, the PS3 is ridiculously cheap, but as a gaming console, it is ridiculously expensive. if sony had not included the blu-ray drive and just sold the PS3 without it, they would have been able to sell it at the same price as the xbox360 and probably sold more of them also (i am an xbox360 owner and a huge fan of it and do not intent on getting a PS3). i think sony made the wrong assumption that everyone would rush out to get it because they had hyped up the console as an entertainment system, not a gaming system....but right now, people are only seeing it as an expensive gaming console until there is a clear-cut winner in the new dvd format.
now on to the pricecuts for the xbox360. i would think that microsoft would cut the price pf $50 for the core and premium systems. i really don't see why they would feel the need to cut the price by $100 when they are finally making money on each console. if they only cut it by $50, then the premium system would be $250 cheaper than the 60gig PS3 and that in itself would help it sell a few more consoles.
one more thing about the pricecuts, i really don't think microsoft will cut the price by $100 only because of one fact.....sony will be extremely hard-pressed to actually cut the price of the PS3 so soon after it came out...sony is not about to lose $400 per PS3 by cutting the price, so microsoft will not cut theirs by $100 if there is no threat of sony slashing their prices.....
