Default US PS3 shipments hit 1m mark

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=22051

I normally don't post on this forum and just read the information posted. Lately, I've been reading a lot of PS3 comparison post regarding the availability of PS3's compared to XBOX360's released.

Well, I hope this article puts the PS3 in the running again, cause lately its been looking really bad for Sony.

Now that the system is more available, the sales should pick up. I'm sure Sony and the PS3 will be fine.

i like that first part

Quote:
Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced that 1 million PS3 units were shipped across North America in the six weeks following launch - breaking the record previously set by PlayStation 2.
so only in north amercia where 1million PS3's sold from Nov 17th thru dec 31. worldwide the numbers are probably close to 1.2million or so.

I also cant believe it has sold faster then the PS2 did when it came out. thats something i didnt know!.. As i knew already, the PS3 IS selling, sony is just shipping a ton of PS3's faster then anyone expected so thats why a number of people are seeing them on the shelves.

Dude, you can try to spin it any way you want but the fact remains: PS3 sales have been a disappointment. Did you actually think with only a million shipped, it would be so easy to buy a PS3 so easily online and offline?? Lets be honest here...

I agree, I saw PS3's sitting on the shelf today at both Target and Walmart. Target had both 20's and 60's. Walmart just had 60's. Shipped isn't sold!

By the way, No Wii's.

I needed to buy a new reciever so I have been all over town trying to find the perfect one. So whats this have to do with this topic? Well I have seen plenty of PS3 on the shelf at several different stores. For example I was in best buy last tuesday and saw 6 PS3 boxes and they were the 60GB version. I was shocked and I asked the clerk if they had just arrived this second since I was sure that they had not been there long. He said they got them 8 new ones yesterday and 2 returns. "Returns", I asked. and he said that it seems alot of people bought them early and expected to sell them for a huge profit like when the 360 came out. But since its getting close to the 30 day unopened box return policy and they can't sell them they take them back. I went back the next day and there was still one left. I saw 2 at circuit city and 3 at fry's. I notice there are periodically available as online. To me this means that Sony really is shipping alot of systems or it means that the demand is not good yet. I understand that Blu-Ray is not a big draw yet? and that there are not enough games to justify the price. I like Sony and am not bashing the PS3 or Sony. I am not a early adopter and right now I am content with the 360. If the PS3 turns out to be that much better then I will buy it in 6-8 months after its released like I did with my 360.

apparently sony doesnt think so?. their more then happy that their PS3 has sold more and faster then previous playstation systems and that it topped off the 360 north american sales too.

However i know ALOT of people on here are "the PS3 is not selling" when in fact i think we can all agree that its more like "the PS3 is not selling AS EXPECTED"

Eddie, The PS3 would dispense cash, clean your house and wipe your bum and people like Gygnus would still complain. Papers too rough, missed a spot, I wanted twenties. You just have to realize they are complaining about the PS3 to make themselves feel better. It's sad really.

You don't honestly think that Sony would admit publicly to being disappointed with the PS3 sales, do you? They could have sold fifty consoles worldwide and they'd still spin it as positive news.

Clearly, the demand is not anywhere close to what was predicted. Is it selling? Sure. Is it selling as well as its competition? Not even close.

The PS3 is selling faster than the PS2 at the same point in its lifespan. How is that disappointing?

Thats cool its SHIPPING faster than its older brother. But its disappointing b/c the PS3 was to be your GOD of next-gen videogame entertainment and make the competition its bitch through software and hardware sales FROM LAUNCH...Well, if you believed the HYPE anyway. The PS2 didn't have such HYPE before its release IMO.

Largely disappointing!

Umm, sure. I'm sorry the PS3 didn't live up to your outrageous expectations. Anyone with common sense never expected any of that.

Because it's a fraction of the number they claimed would ship a few months ago? If you were an investor and owned stock in a company that claimed they were going to sell upwards of four million units, how would you feel if only one million units ended up shipping?

Most stockholders would be pissed, not excited.
