Issue with Playstation 2 and component.
OK, so I got my HDtv, an RCA, great TV, I love it, but a few days ago, while cleaning my garage looking for stuff to sell on ebay, I came across one of the cables that i bought for my PS2, namely the component ones, so I decided to give it a try on the new TV, but i gotta say that the picture sucks, it shimmers so bad my eyes hurt. Trying to solve the problem i tried a different set of cables, a different PS2, different games and DVD movies, but the problem remained.Thinking that the TV was the problem, I hooked a DVD player i had with a set of component cables and the picture was the sharpest i've ever seen, so I guess the TV is ok.Does anyone has any ideas on the reason this is happening and some kind of fix?? I have a Toshiba TV, a 32 incher, not HD, that ahs the component input and i used to play the PS2 on it without a problem, so when i saw the shimmering on the new TV I knew I had to fix it. About the only thing i can think of that could cause this is that the PS2 sends a signal with a refresh rate of about 30 Hz, but since I really don't know much about this, i'm only speculating, so any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

did you set the PS2 to output 480p (instead of 480i)
if you hooked the PS2 up to your HiDef TV via Y,Pb,Pr cable the TV will be looking for a 480 progressive signal...

How can you set the PS2 to Progressive scan? I see no option to do that. They just let you select the screen size, the video mode, etc. That's it! I hook up my PS2 to my toshiba 46HM84 too, and I do use the component cable. It do not look better as I expected. It could be the game itself.

Could you please confirm that which model of PS2 can be "enable" the Progressive scan. I have tried mine but no help, even though it can display movie picture nicely, just like my progressice scan DVD player.
My TV is 46HM84 Thankz alot |

Ok here's the deal. For true progressive scan your PS2 must have a serial number of 5000 series. Or one of the newer slim PS2 consoles. The older ones prior to 5000 series will not do progressive video regardless of your connection. I had to upgrade by selling my old one on Ebay and buying a newer one. You'll notice the box for the upgraded PS2's have a yelow plus symbol in the corner. You do HAVE TO go to the menu and set the PS2 to progressive before using it otherwise it will not show improvement in Picture quality!

Thank yo so much and damn it for me. I got the PS2 right at the beginning when it first came out. I know the serial is 3000.

Texturing/load on PS2 and progressive scan
Ok I too have played witht he texturing option and come to know this. If you set the PS2 to progressive Scan it stays that way for all games and dvd viewing, which is nice. As for the texturing if you set it to improve graphics smoothing etc. it can work on older titles, a good example being the older PS1 titles. It can smooth out the texturing actually improving these older games! However if you set it to smooth on a PS2 title which are more newer and advanced graphically, the PS2 will make no improvement to grahic quality. PS2 games are already maxed out graphic wise, the texturing improvement only work on some older titles that wern't that advanced grahically. As for the load speed, it work the same. You can turn up the loading spped on some older titles. But if you try that on a new PS2 title the game will freeze up, or just not load any faster than it normally should. Hope this helps!

texturing and load speed
Ok if you enable texturing on PS2 to "smooth" graphics, you have to realize that it will mostly improve older PS1 titles. These games were less advanced grahically and stand the most to gain from smoothing texturing. As for the new PS2 titles these are already way more advanced graphically. If you choose to smooth texturing PS2 games either show no improvement, or don't work. You can also set the load speed higher on PS2, once again benefitting older PS1 software, but if you try to run a PS2 game it loads no faster, it may even freeze up. Hope this helps.
