Gears of War Is The New Most Played Game on Xbox Live

Major Nelson, the Xbox Live Director of Programming, has posted a list of the top 10 most-played games over Xbox Live on his blog this weekend. As always, the ranking is split between the Xbox and Xbox 360 platforms but Larry Hryb clarified that if both lists were combined, Gears of War would be the most-played Xbox Live title across all platforms, which means that is has surpassed all-time #1 Halo 2.

Now that the install base for Xbox 360 is close to that of the Xbox, a next-generation game can finally enjoy more online users that the all-mighty Halo 2.

We hope Epic Games releases more multiplayer content for Gears of War before gamers move to some other online shooter like Call of Duty 3, Rainbow Six Vegas or Shadowrun.
