Default Feels Good To Be Back

Shew...feels like Ive gone forever.I'm totally lost on these new threads. Well its been the most insane couple weeks ever in my house...sick baby, sick wife, dispute with a major corporation...but today(while Im at work) Im getting a chance to get in here again. So heres the lowdown as far as I have gotten with NYKO so far.Initially I had told a rep at NYKO that I would not "alarm" anyone to this potential problem as it would fair to allow them to attempt to remedy this first, but now after nearly 2 weeks they have not even attempted to care. Heres what happened.....Im playing 360 for about 20 minutes when it shuts down and flashes the overheat signal, odd since Ive never had this happen before but hey what the hell I guess it could happen once in awhile right? Nope. Twice more in the next 20 minutes.I check everything and nothing is hot to the touch at all,not even the disc when I took it out, which is odd since I always heard when they were overheating the disc would get very hot.I leave it alone for about an hour and come back to try again,in a matter of 20 minutes it happens again, except this time Im beginning to smell "electrical" smoke...yea you guys know that smell huh ? So now Im freaking out and dont know what to do since nothing is hot to the touch and I was deeply into a game of hockey with my boy so I was gonna finish up and then see if I could find a problem. Now Im starting to think about the Intercooler, lately its been making an odd sound when I first start it up and I was wondering if it could have anything to do with it,Im thinking maybe its not working and thats why the 360 is getting overheated? As Im pondering this POOF!!! a plume of smoke comes from the back of my 360 . It shuts down on its own and I reach over to the power supply and quickly unplug it.Theres still some light smoke trailing off the thing and Im goin crazy.I disconnect the AV plug and take the 360 over to my table,I then can see that smoke seems to have been coming from the Intercooler area. I go to pull the Intercooler out and its obvious that its crazy hot,so hot that it burned my finger tip,not the outer part of the Intercooler, the "male" end of the unit that goes into the 360 for the power supply, the thing was actually burnt,I mean burnt like the plastic was all stringy and melted.I look at the back of the 360 and the "female" end of the 360 for the power supply was very shiny from the heat and slightly distorted but not nearly as bad as the Intercooler.I was able to get my power plug into the 360 and decided to try it and thank goodness it worked fine. Then I decide to try to see if overheats without the Intercooler now and nothing...I left the 360 runnig for almost 8 hours, some playing some idle and it never shutdown. I took pictures of the Intercooler and my 360's power plug and called NYKO. At first they seemed sorta concerned then I get an email from this guy who is supposed to be the lead tech.He tells me that "its no big deal" I ask him what about if this thing was running while I wasnt home or I was sleeping and this happened? It could have started a fire...he says"well maybe BUT unlikely"....unlikely?are you crazy? He then proceeds through the gammut of questions like does it have space around it for ventilation blah blah blah and when I answered all those questions he was obviously stumped for a response so he says "well maybe you had the power plug not securely in the Intercooler to which I told him that it was indeed in there as good as it can be but it never felt as secure as when directly plugged into the 360,so he says well then you have an older version of the Intercooler so thats the problem....well as you can imagine Im laughing quite hard at this point and tell him that first off i dont believe there are older and newer versions of the piece let alone if there are older versions of the piece than theres a reason and this is the reason and why in hell wouldnt they tell anyone about this?Again no intelligent response...I have begun to take steps for legal action and would like NYKO to atleast admit that they are selling a product that even under ideal and fully functional circumstances can be a fire hazard. Im kinda running outta lunch time here and I will gladly email any pics for further proof but heres my thoughts...if you are using an Intercooler, remove it ASAP,it can without a doubt in my mind screw up your 360 and very potentially start a fire. I will be back on later tonight and would like to post this guy a t NYKO's email/phone information and would love for some of you guys who may already have seen this problem or some time today will take a minute and feel the part of the Intercooler going into there 360 and realize just how hot these can get and call this genius and see what he has to say when more people start calling...Is he gonna offer a replacement Intercooler to you guys too? What a joke,a replacement...like I want another one?

Nice to have you back Godson!
Sorry about all the family problems..
Sorry about the work problems..
and SORRY about your 360 almost burning up!!
I would definately call this jerk and give him my piece of mind, but i haven't even purchased an intercooler for my 360.. it's on a ventilated enough shelf that i figured it wouldn't be worth the extra $25.. but that really sucks man..

Post pics?

I only bought the crap cause I thought hey why not for 20 bucks if it can cool it better then its worth it but I SHOULD have known better...Ive never been suckered into this kinda crap product before but I would love to see what happens if more people experiance this problem, although I DONT wanna see anyone get hurt....fires are NOT cool

First welcome back godson.

Second I'd LOVE to see those pictures.

I hope NYKO takes your situation to heart when making the PS3 inter cooler, though I doubt they will. From my experience speaking to techs, gets you little to nowhere. You need to speak to an engineer!

I'm pretty sure stuff is built so poorly these days, and it is also harder than ever to get anything done about it unless it is on such a large scale.

People dont care... its the sad thing.

I swear that out of all the items I buy, the things that do go wrong, from shipping, to eqip. failure, to anything, 99 percent of the time it is never cleared up.

I can see why people loose it and go ape shiz

p.p.s. welcome back, i was wondering if some company put a hit on you or paid you off to stay away from the forums.

Yea man,the wife was laughing at me in the hospital...they internet on the tv but you had to use this remothe control to work it and it was slow so when I tried to get on it just wasnt workin...2moro after work I'll try to upload them on photobucket. Oh hold up,let me get the initial email I got from. This is a copy/paste of the email and keep in mind this after I tell them the thing plumed smoke in my living room AND sent them the pics of the stuff all melted, check this out

>Dear Nyko Customer,

As with most new products on the market, the Intercooler has
an extremely small defective rate and is a very reliable product. We would
like to assure you that Nyko stands by its products one-hundred percent, and
will provide customer service and support for the Intercooler for the
entirety of your ownership. Please call me at the number below.
I will be more than glad to take care of this for you.

Sincerely,
>

"Keep It Cool"

Wow...they gladly offered me an EXCHANGE...a freakin new one. I asked if there should be any kinda "recall" or atleast some kinda something to let people know about this potential problem. The guy says well as I stated in my email the defective rate is very small so no need for concern. Huh? I ask him if a product has even slight chance of CATCHING FIRE under optimal operating conditions shouldnt that be a concern? Im in talks with MS currently and have a phone call to make 2moro to someone at MS who supposedly IS actually concerned about this. The guy I spoke to that has put me in touch with this lady says it could very well be a liablity for MS as concerns of this non-liscensed product causing damage to the 360 that could be returned to MS for warranty repairs under the false impression that it was a problem caused by the 360's own power supply cord...would love to see MS take this over and pound NYKO's ass.who knows this kinda thing may have already happened who knows how many times? Im actually thinking about attempting contact with Sony since NYKO has openly claimed that they have an Intercooler for the PS3 launch while admitting it was a difficult task in building it as they DID NOT HAVE a working PS3 to design it off, only a mock up..LOL...that thing should work like a charm. They will sell the thing on the same premise that they used on the 360.."they MIGHT overheat so buy this for prevention for 20 bucks and see ya later"Sorry thing is I was not only suckered into this riff but encouraged my friends who bought 360's after me to do the same, after seeing mine everyone i know has removed theirs including my cousin who after we took it off we looked at the 360 "female" part of the power supply and it was showing obvious signs of excessive heat...the black plastic was very shiny and slightly distorted and he actually some brown buildup on the Intercooler itself where it piggy-backs in the 360. I have been running this thing in excess of 6 hours a day since and not one single shutdown, cant be coincidence.Man if it wasnt so late Im dying to read all these new threads,I feel left behind in the news Say hi to Jimmy for me,the countdown to launch has begun so all the truth will come out soon, but I probably wont have much chance to read it......cause I'll be getting my Wii on baby...hell yea number 2 of 6 at Gamestop around here,Im feeling pretty good about getting mine day 1,also rumor has it that since the midnight of the release of the Zelda is the launch day(actual date) they might be trying to squeeze out hte Wii that nigh instead of waiting till morning. I dont know if this a national deal or some local Gamestops but Im working on the manager over hear and he says its looking good since they only getting a few of them it could be kinda swept under the rug
