According to SONY the base model will be able to output games in 1080p thru component cables like xbox 360.But that's SONY talk, they claim the $500 model is a gamers only system.

When in reality we all know the 600 dollar PS3 will be the "gamers only system."

i dont know, according to Sony from what i heard ALLLLL PS3 games will be made on blu-ray disc only, the developers are not going to use DVD's for PS3 games(although yes the PS3 can read many other media formats) ..., see their trying to STOP piracy not continue it by making PS3 games on DVD's which are easy to come with a DVD burner.

How you figure this is a gamers only system? It's being billed as a multi-media sytem. The $500 system lacks hdmi which means when ict is implemnted it won't output movies in 1080p,but games are unaffected.

I hope you guys know that I was joking around about SquareEnix because they're such CG whore.

Don't think just because a game is going to be running at 1080p require HUGE data.

this is such a bad statement. if you think the ps3 is sony biggest reason for releasing the machine then your wrong. sonys biggest investment is bluray. if they screw that part up then there in big trouble. in the next few years hd will become the standard in homes not the minority anymore. look at how stores are already dropping prices on hd sets and are starting to carry less sd sets. if bluray wasnt so important to sony then they woulda dropped it and released the ps3 alot quicker so microsoft wouldnt have such a big jump on them. that kind of lead does make a difference.

most gamers are kid who cant afford a new system every year so if they already got the 360 then there not gonna have the cash for the ps3. now for the kids who didnt buy a 360 in hopes that the ps3 woulda been out in the fall are now hearing all talk about delays were true. then they gotta deal with a very expensive system and tons of lost features for the more affordable system. microsoft better have the stores stocked this summer because these kids are gonna give up on sony. not all of them but a huge majority of them.

this is the reason sony is not being totaly honest. i was doubted when i stated the system would not be out by last spring because of the bluray player. then i was doubted when i stated the system was not gonna cost less then $500.(499 is close enough. plus tax puts it over.) im still doubted when i say the system will not look much better then the 360 if better at all. dont believe me look at what the software programers are stating. sony and microsoft use different approches to how there systems work. sonys specs look good on paper to average gamers and those who know little. but when the numbers are broken down by software programers it shows that there isnt gonna be much of a difference.

in the end its gonna come down to the programers and the companies they work for. most games are multi platform now. so do you really think these software companies are gonna spend so much more on either system. i doubt it. that would kill there relations with the company they screwed over. then that would lead to less money for them in the long run.

Because the hardcore gamers are gonig to get the 600 dollar system, esp if they have hdtv's with hdmi and hptc or whatever the coding is for it... plus 20 gigs for a hd is not too big for demos and trailers.. the 360 "20" gig one sure fills up fast..

I also know as all my friends and co workers that are even interested in looking towards getting a ps3 say they want the 600 dollar one.. so i have my opinion and personal experience to further it as well.

I see this really hurting sony. And maybe gaming in general depending on how bad they are hurt.
When the developers for the exclusives for the ps3 see how little there games are selling because people aren't buying the p$3, I believe that they will jump over to the 360.
360 fans will love that(me included) but if sony totally bombs we will be back to a two console race(which is what usually seems to happen) and I for one believe that competition is great for us gamers. I hope the wii is at least a good system.

The mistake SONY is making is releasing a "Tard-Box 360" version or if you prefer "el-cheapo" version in the first place. Look how quickly M$ pulled support for the core system not even a year after launch. Now EVERY system requires the hard drive to play new games. By having two SKUs you effectively kill your profits by having to set up two manufacturing processes. SONY should have stuck with one SKU like they originally said they would. Personally, I think the multiple SKU's were a last minute idea along with the controller "update"

but even though they may output 1080p through the component connections, will there be a display that can input 1080p through the component connections? Every display I've seen that supports 1080p input is through the HDMI connection.

From everything I've heard, you cannot effectively and consistently output 1080P through component connections. M$ has even admitted this through stating they will be making an "official" HDMI cable for their HD-DVD add on. Also, I agree that I have yet to see an HDTV accept a 1080P signal through component.

Wow,thats definitly a huge thought. I dont know Ive ever seen a set that claims to input 1080p thru component. I'm not saying they dont exist, but I wonder.....its not like people will run out to buy a set that will do this and I doubt that many if any at all of the sets out there right now do this.
