I took Calculus, Robotics, AP Computer Science, and Statistics in High School. If I could go back in time I'd take... fucking motor lab, drafting, and pottery.

only math class I needed was financial lit. Atleast in the work i've done outside of school, i've virtually used zero algerbra or higher math.

I can understand people in the field of engineering and things like that.. but 95 percent of the world will never need to use anything higher than your basic math. In a world ran on currency financial math is much much MUCH more useful.

I took all the basic and advanced maths in HS and in college Calculus I, II, and Differential Equations along with some useless applied math course. What is funny is that I find myself using plane goemetry and trigonometry (along with simple algebra) more often than anything else - the pythagorean theorem rocks - a^2+b^2=c^2 . I use all the time to figure out the heigth and width of all sorts of displays based on the diagonal or vice-versa.

Too bad they didn't teach me how to push the button that looks like a picture of french fries or a Coke because then I would be equipped to work in today's open job marketplace much better than some.

PS- I actually do use quite a bit of math in optics.

I use math in my work. Mostly simple geometry to determine how many dehumidifiers and air movers I need, or to see how cubic feet of water might be standing.

To me geometry has most of the practical real world applications of all the 'higher' maths (ones not named: add, subtract , mult, and divide)

I actually did really well in geometry. Only math class past the third grade I ever got an A in.
