Crysis 2 Won't Run - Black Screen

I bought Crysis 2 today and I can't play it.

When I launch the game, I get audio but no video...just a black screen. I can hear the audio but the screen is black.

kamspy tried troubleshooting this for over an hour to no avail...anyone else have any ideas?

I have a Radeon 6870 card if that helps.

Five- sorry to hear about your troubles, I was hoping to get your 'neutral' unbiased opinion as you are somebody who recently got into PC gaming. This has already been covered but have you - 1) D/l and installed the latest ATI drivers? 2) what resolution are you running at - try turning your desktop resolution to 1024x768 or a lower res and see if that makes a difference along with your refresh rates. 3) unistall and try re-installing.

Keep us posted as to how things are progressing.

FIve- I just read that some people are having much better success using catalyst 11.4 drivers (11.4 poss still in beta) and also try changing your Vsync setting. One thing I know for sure - changing resolutions or vsync during the game will often crash it

It sounds like the same bugs from the leaked version.

Have you tried launching the game as administrator? I know that's cleared up tons of issues for the GF and I with Windows 7. Right click the icon and click run as adminstrator.

It seems your resolution isnt being set properly. I havent tinkered with the game so I dont know how to edit the config files yet. Once mine finishes downloading I'll take a look.

This nVidia user had a similar issue, someone posted a GUI config file, not sure how it works:

Uh.. I actually had this problem with the Beta I think.

I'd use the config program

It's a resolution problem, easily fixed I beleive. I'm not 100 percent sure how i fixed mine, i think i went in to the actual config file.

What drivers are you running right now?

You can download the 11.4 preview drivers right here. Try this....

Uninstall the game from control panel.
Uninstall current CCC suite from control panel.
Download Driversweeper
Reboot into safe mode by hitting F8 during boot
Run Drive Sweeper and have it remove any current ATI stuff leftover
Reboot normally
Install 11.4 preview drivers
Install game

Obviously the solution was to force the following 2 lines into a config file:

r_width=1920
r_length=1080

Duh I should have thought of that off the bat.

Seriously...what the fuck?!?

Anyway, kams and kharaa, thanks for your help!

Both of you update your Steam wishlists in a few days when I get paid.

(Up to a $30 value, lol).

That was a miserable issue, glad we got it fixed for ya.. This is why AMD is upset, a PC game that should have been developed as one, not as a console game.

What was the default resolution? 640x480? haha.

The problem was the game was defaulting to a PC resolution that his TV didn't support.
