Default Fallout New Vegas PC Performance FIX!! 100%

Download this .dll file.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1091897/d3d9.dll

Put it here:

Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\

No more NPC game breaking slowdown. Will run exactly like Fallout 3 now. It's just an older dx9 basic .dll file. Not sure why this game has beef with the new one.

Woah that's a full DLL. At least post the source site. Not saying I don't trust you, but I don't trust others.

So this will stop making the game run like a steaming pile of dog crap?

My game is choppy (not horrible, but noticeable and obnoxious) and it seems like the framerate tanks when there's too much going on. There was like an 8 v 8 NCR vs Legion fight and all I could do was stand and watch the 5 FPS.

I don't think it has anything to do with my settings, because I turned off FSAA and some other stuff and it was no different.

This is why I dont PC game more, few things work the way they should. I also dont care to have the highest resolution game, I just want to pop in the game and have it work, no work arounds.

I would have to say that of all the PC games I have played, I have only had one game work flawlessly. Batman: Arkham Asylum. Thats it, every other single game has issues, some minor and some like this that to me is game breaking.

Seems the console versions are borked too:

Update: Patches are coming. Pete Hines, marketing man at Fallout studio Bethesda Softworks, tells Kotaku that "We are currently working on releasing patches/updates as quickly as possible for Fallout: New Vegas, for all platforms. Announcements regarding the patches are forthcoming." He advises anyone seeing this head-turning bug to re-verify their files on Steam, as the issue is due to a "corrupt mesh file." Also notable: The head-turning bug here was highlighted two days ago in a blog post by one of the game's producers, who identified it as a known bug that was "eradicated" prior to the game's official release.
Seems the PC community found solutions, the console guys have to wait for MS/Sony certification.

Yeah Rambo this is a 100% fix. Not a slight bump, it fixes it completely.

With your 460 it won't go below 60fps on Ultra no matter how many NPCs are around.

Mase, LOL, at least our game is fixed. Console versions are borked for life. Only thing wrong with the PC version was it ran like a console game. Now it's fixed.

I dont have the game for a reason, this glorified expansion can wait till it drops in price, by that time the console side will work just fine and I can actually enjoy the game.

30 fps, lower resolution, no texture filtering, etc. break the game for some people.

Even the PC games I can't play like that now, I like to think that I can in the future. I remember playing F.E.A.R. for the first time at a whopping 20fps, thinking it'll be lightyears before it will be smooth and now it is.

New Vegas runs like jank on every platform right now, and for 360 and PS3, this won't change.

Or wait for RAGE next year. I have to admit that i'm intrigued at this new direction ID is going, and hope that it doesn't turn into a flop.

Its a trade off, no doubt. Biggest one so far has been that the Xbox 360 controller's analog stick deadzones are too small, so sometimes when I let go of the stick, it will still be telling my computer TURN LEFT. In Fallout Vegas, this translates into a lot of menus thrashing around because it thinks I'm holding left on the analog stick.

I don't know of any fix. I can't use a keyboard/mouse because I just can't stand using a full keyboard, and my little single hand gaming keyboards are wired... Well I can't do wired because I'm playing in a theater room where the PC is in a closet 8 feet away. Must be wireless.

Speaking of which, I should check if there are any wireless game pads. I have the Nostromo N52 and some other one, both wired.

All I know is I'm getting schooled on tessellation man.

That is the future.

I remember when RPGs used two engines Hi-Res for up-close shots of character's faces and low-res for standard world exploration.

Tessellation will allow the same engine to do both and different levels of detail in between all based on variables of distance.

AMD/NVIDIA better get this shit done right! Here is an example of extreme tessellation:

+ YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

Reading up on tessellation is amazing. Note: some of these scenes wire-frame are actually less than in some games. But the tessellation calculations are so advances it would be impossible to do this kind of tessellation real time on current hardware. But just keep that in mind - this is tessellation!

I just got home from work but am heading right out. I'll give this a shot later. I assume you can just reinstall DX10 or 11 right back over it if there's a problem.

Kamspy's file is a DX9 caller, I'm not sure if the game supports DX10 or 11.
