Default Anybody picking up White Knight Chronicles?

The game's been getter mixed reviews, but then again most JRPGs do that aren't named Final Fantasy (mostly due to reviewers not knowing that the eff they're talking about)...

Anyways I was thinking about picking this up, but I'm still up in the air. On the one hand, I'm not exactly hurting for a new RPG since I'm still in the middle of the brilliantly made Mass Effect 2. On the other hand, who am I to say no to a new JRPG?

Anyways, if you are planning on picking this up, let me know how you like it and whether its worthy of a buy or just a rent.

Thanks!

This is definitely on my list but not for $60, all of the RPG sites I visit say its a solid C, even the official playstation mag gave it a 3/5.. I love me a good JRPG but for its short length and relatively low replayability, I will wait till the drought in the summer and hopefully it will be cheaper by then as well.

I'm same as mase, love the look of it, but really don't want to risk full whack for it. Especially with being a plank and forking out £110 for the PAL God of War Limited Edition next month along with a £60 Final Fantasy XIII collectors edition.

JRPGs this gen have been kinda of disappoint for me. So chances are I'll be renting it, if I even bother to. I was excited when it was first announced, than the crap that they are selling me as JRPGs made me weary of anything.

And no I haven't played Valkyria yet, I hear its the only real gem this gen.

Tales of Vesperia was a great addition to the Tales series... but only if you do enjoy the Tales series.

This is an understatement. I liked it better than Symphonia, and that was my favorite of the franchise up to that point. The characters were much more likeable in Vesperia.

The combat system has always been the Achilles Heel for me and the Tales series.

While Vesperia was a good JRPG, it wasn't great in my book. It felt so...cliche. Eternal Sonata felt more fresh than Vesperia.

Puuuuhhhhhleease...... ES was the biggest waste of my gaming time this generation. Admitedly, I was liking it until the last 2-3 hours of the game. But the ending was easily The. Worst. ending of any game I've ever played. Ever. I chalk it up to being very poorly localized. That's the only reason I can think of.

ToV has been my favorite JRPG of this gen, the characters just clicked for me and the story was pretty damn good. I can see how some would say its cliche but perhaps I was able to look past it as I was extremely hard up for a JRPG at the time.. I am debating whether or not to replay it on the PS3 for some of the new content and I am again in need of a very good JRPG...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Eternal Sonata was a better game, it wasn't. But story wise, it felt new...fresh. I can't recall aside the Zelda games where Music played a vital role to the story.

But again, so far this gen for JRPGs has been very weak. I'd have to say LO was my fave this gen so far, and that is only because it felt like an HD FF7 most of the time haha.

I did like LO. I really enjoyed the story of it. And yeah, being from Mistwalker, it definitely had a more FF vibe than actual FF's have recently.

Yes, I've pre-ordered FFXIII, but I'm still a little hesitant it's going to be as great as I'm wanting it to be. Yes, it'll be gorgeous, but will it play well? That's my concern.
