Now now, Mase isn't lying. You can't re-download video content for free off the psn without getting on the phone and harassing Sony. Game content yes, but video no.

You can not play games through Sony, look on first party Sony titles, they even say online play can stop at any time.. Servers are a different story, if Zipper wants to continue to support the SOCOM servers that is their decision and not Sony's. I wish Microsoft would incorporate servers but its a double edged sword. They could be like EA and stop supporting them after only 2 years, while Microsoft themselves have supported the old XBL P2P infrastructure longer than any other console out there..

I dont care who pegs me as what, but its common sense and like Pinoy has said, video content can not be redownloaded on ones own, you have to involve customer service and even then there is no guarantee you will be able to... I am not upset as its in their rules, you dont see me crying about, Kam was just bored and trying to get a rise out of someone..

JusHD, ignorance is bliss, my blissful friend.

I was talking about transfering that same data to another console, like if someone upgrades to a slim from a phat, you are shit out of luck... I can re-download stuff to as many 360s as I want as its all tied to your GamerTag.

Ya know, think about how much all the Xbox 1 DLC there is storage-wise. Total. Maybe 20GB max?

For a paid service I'd expect them to hang onto that. 360 will have hundreds of GB of DLC before it's lifespan is over and you have to wonder how long they'll host that.

I thought the content hosting was one of the things we are paying for.

Speak ill of Microsoft and people chime in, get excited, and, overall, just join in on the fray.

Speak ill of Sony and the shit hits the fan with whining and bitching and excuses.

The bias on this board is really getting old.

P.S. I'm not saying this was a good thing for Microsoft to do. This is a social comment about the forum itself and how "anti-Microsoft" it's become over the last year.

As a consumer, is there any reason not to be anti-Microsoft?

Kam, sometimes you seem like such a level headed person and than other times you are just outrageous. How is this a big deal and how can you derive from whats happening on the old XBL that it will happen with the new XBL when you can now access your content on the 360 offline...

This is a service that in its rules and regulation can be taken down whenever they want. I pay for a year but if they decided to quit the 360 and I lose out, I cant complain because I knew what I was getting into.. No, I would not enjoy that, but I am also not going to whine about it on the internet like they have just committed some travesty.. Soo if you dont like it, dont buy it, its litterally as easy as that.. This goes for stuff beyond Microsoft and XBL, dont support something you dont agree with..

I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that you can transfer data from one PS3 to another. I think it was an update that Sony did in December.

Why wouldn't I post gaming crap at a gaming forum? People ought to know about this. It's not like MS was sending out emails.

I think what they're doing with this set's a lurid precedent that's even stronger with the actual support (sic) for this practice from a ton of xboxen.

I know if John Carmack came in my window one night and stole half of my Quake 2 maps and swapped my discs I'd be pretty pissed at the PC gaming climate.

Maybe the general acceptance of this practice from the majority of the heard is just the new 'disposable society' mantra that our economy is moving toward.

You'd really think in economic times like these people would be thinking with their wallet more, but the majority have voted with their wallet to willingly be gouged (especially in the gaming market).

Look at the cost of ownership of a 360 Pro since launch.

Console - $399
4 years XBL Gold - ~$200
Wifi - $80
Hard drive upgrade (unless 13GB suits you) - $100
Controller charging solution - $30
~2 RRoD - $(what's your time worth?)

You're looking at over $800 since launch for an objectively sub par product. That's not counting games and at least one inevitable controller replacement. The hardware is crap, the online is P2P (paying for it only salts the wound), the games are $60, DLC longevity is now in question, patch approval is way too slow(2-3 weeks for Darkstalkers patch?), etc.

Yes the accessory gouging is taking a page straight from Sony's approach to the PS2, and I'm pretty certain Sony will revert back to the proprietary accessory market with the PS4.

I would say something to champion Sony here, but I know the PS3 is now an anomaly (free online and universal accessories) and I really doubt they'll follow suit with the PS4.

No more a reason than to be:

Anti-Sony
Anti-Apple
Anti-Google
Anti-ANYBIGEFFINGCORPORATION

No company is out for the consumer, they are out for their shareholders. They are out to make a profit.

My point is that, as far as Microsoft is concerned, they can do no right on this forum. And yet when Sony does some equally shitty-shit, it gets passed off as acceptable. I have no problem bitching about Microsoft and their shitty practices (and believe me, they have a bunch!), but let us also not forget that Sony and even Nintendo have their own fair share of crap.

Anybody who wants to pretend otherwise is living in a dream world.

I may be painted by some as a Microsoft fan, but I assure you I'm not. I'm a fan of their products (Windows and Xbox 360) but I'm not a fan of the corporation. The two are not dependent upon eachother.

This thread makes no implications that Sony or Nintendo will handle DLC any differently.

This was well after I upgraded to a Slim, its a nice service they added and will definitely give it a try if/when I upgrade to a new PS3. Again I was not complaining about it happening, I was merely pointing out that I should have read what I was getting into before hand.

Kam Microsoft does not hide its intent, it states on its game cases and in its massive TOA/EULA that "Features and services can change without notice".

I dont agree with that, but its not hidden from anyone, if you choose to ignore this fact, than its on you..

I am also not stating you cant post stuff on a gaming forum, but we spend more time slinging mud about console manufactures than we do about actual games and content.. All I am saying is you whining on this forum wont change the fact that you have spent a lot of money on a console you seem to dislike.. Speaking with your wallet will do more than speaking on this forum.

You're really showing your casual roots DLC is the only way to get the full experience out of some games now. If they're just flicking the switch off, that makes it very concerning for me with regards for the future.

I wouldn't turn to Sony because MS have done this though as there's nothing stopping them doing the same when they move onto PS4. Which would hurt me a lot more, as I have several hundred quid worth of PSN downloads now. I cut my losses on the 200 or so XBL DLC/XBLA titles I'd purchased on the 360, though I did think I'd be able to get them back when I eventually bought the next Xbox, or found a nice deal on a non RROD 250gb 360 in the next year or two.

It's not much ado about nothing, it is a very scary precedent which I hope is not followed by either Nintendo or Sony, or MS with the 360. Not all people finish games and move on like you do, some people (myself included to some extent) enjoy digging out old games and enjoying them again I still love fishing out my SNES and shoving Yoshi's Island or Super Mario Allstars on. If they can just press a button and turn everything you've paid for off on you (especially without warning) that is just plain wrong.
