Default Black Friday Gives PlayStation 3 Record Results

http://au.ps3.ign.com/articles/105/1050627p1.html

Quote:
US, November 30, 2009 - The good news just keeps rolling in for console manufacturers after the madness that was Black Friday weekend.

Sony announced the company had set a new record for one week sales for PlayStation 3, selling nearly half a million consoles, as well as an increase in PSP sales.

"The 2009 holiday season got off to an amazing start for PlayStation, with all key retailers showing a significant increase for PS3, PSP and key holiday titles over Black Friday and the holiday weekend," said Patrick Seybold, Sr. Director of Corporate Communications and Social Media. "PlayStation 3 demand was at an all time high with the system selling more than 440,000 units for the week ending 11/29/09."

Seybold also touted the PS3's total package as the reason many have been buying up the console during these tough times.

"In today's economy, consumers are drawn to items that offer the most value for their money, making the PS3 an ideal choice for those who want a comprehensive gaming and entertainment system all in one package," he continued.

"Combine that with exclusive holiday bundles and an extensive software line-up, one that many analysts are calling the best in the industry, with titles such as Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, UNCHARTED 2:Among Thieves, and LittleBigPlanet: Game of the Year, we have no doubt the momentum and demand will continue and consumers will prove that entertainment this holiday season is going to be defined by PlayStation."
Good results and Good for Sony, lets hope the momentum continues and with the iminent releases of God of War 3, Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo 5 and Final Fantasy 13, I dont see no reason why it wouldnt continue.

I don't know if it's the case in the US, but 3 of the 4 games you mention come out within 3 weeks of each other in the UK!

Fantastic sales for the PS3, I take it somewhere was heavily discounting them in the US? Or has it just finally been put at a price where consumers are willing to take the plunge?

I wonder whats going on in the UK with the console market.

Those are impressive sales, will be interested to see how the other two sold for comparison. I wasn't aware of any big black friday deals on the PS3, if there weren't any than it's an even better indicator for them.

My bro-in-law said he was going to buy a PS3 on Black Friday for $299 bundled w/ 3 games (he didn't remember what they were). That's a pretty fuckin sweat deal if you ask me, I don't know how anyone could pass that up.

My buddy picked up the Gamestop bundle for his X-mas present, $299 with God Of War I and II and LBP GOY edition.

Walmart was Batman AA, Infamous, and Batman TDK BR. All sweet deals, wish I had waited to get my slim!! lol

I believe Ninty said they sold 1.5 million thanksgiving week
MS said that they sold twice what they did the week before which is kind of an odd statement, either they don't know the exact number or they didn't outsell Sony or Ninty.

Nice starter pack enjoy!

Nintendo shifted 1.5m consoles, most were DS consoles. The Wii didn't sell as well as last year, but sold better than thanksgiving 2007.
