Default Obama and Little Big Planet Team Up

Interesting. Sony have donated 1000 PS3s and copies of LBP to libraries across the US as part of a new video game integrated education drive.

Little Big Planet is a fantastic title and was for me, the first AAA game on the PS3. Great to see it's likely to have a much longer lasting legacy than it's retail performance managed.

I think the biggest thing is this is Barack Obama publically now advocating the video games industry as a potential nurturing ground for future talent and careers. As the ESA said, a great day for gaming on the whole.

I think this is more about technology in general, not video games. LittleBigPlanet, the PS3, and video games are just the tools they are using for kids... there's really not much to read into this. And as for Barack Obama, I'm sure if you said "LittleBigPlanet" to him he'd have no idea what the f you're talking about. I'd hope he has much more important things on his mind than video games, like Afghanistan for example....

How dare you question the knowledge of our Commander and Chief! You're a communist! Or whatever we hate this era. Ahh.. You're CHinese!

Haha.

I sort of agree with GLOW. I think its just a Sony got lucky publicity stunt to make people think the government cares about stuff or something. haha. I'm sure we're paying for those consoles through our taxes.

Obama sucks

LBP though is a masterpiece and considering the age of his girls i havent seen a game kids like more than LBP so he probably does know of it. My girls ( 8&4 years old) and their cousins play this thing together online almost daily. Any kid that comes over gets addicted to this thing. But it does already have learning levels made by people and the ABC levels really helped my littlest one. We teach her letters than play time playing this since that all she wants to do and I just search the millions of user created levels and find some pretty good stuff. Fuck all those crappy learning systems they sell for tv's anyway this can be a whole lot better.

You hope he has much more important things in life than trying to inspire the next generation to be more creative and pursue careers? As a teacher I couldn't think of anything more important than kickstarting creativity and feeding young imaginations.

If video games is a way to do that, I'm all for it. It's not saying Video Games are now a priority, it's showing a realization that we need to move with the times to inspire. This is something that is close to my heart although I work in adult education, we have to do a lot of compensating for the failings of the education system for minors.

Little Big Planet is also a completely different kettle of fish to anything even like New Super Mario Bros Wii, is it is the creative level design etc. aspect that is the focus, not the game itself.

I think the safety and security of our country, our troops, and our allies is much more important than promoting creativity. You can't be very creative when you're dead. I'm not saying that promoting creativity and tech innovation isn't an important thing, in fact I think it's very important, I just don't think it should be a priority for government. For teachers on the other hand, I think it's extremely important.

"You can't be very creative when you're dead." Don't be so bloody mellow dramatic you big jessie! creativity gives purpose and a passion in life which leads to far less conflict

Afghanistan isn't a threat to anyone other than the poor people living there and the poor troops who have been sent there. Afghanistan (and Iraq) were on a home security front, more beneficial for drawing public attention away from how shit the political parties running the countries were. (it certainly applies for the UK where the War on Iraq is currently being investigated and so far evidence has been found to confirm that the reasons for going to war never existed and the people who made the decision to go to war knew this)

Afghanistan isn't a direct threat to either the US or UK and IMO they went into a situation ill prepared and sadly many families are now paying the price for that. That said, I'm not one of the growing number of people who think troops should pull out as they now need to finish what has been started over there, not just for the local people but also to make sure all the good men who have died in service over there haven't done so for no reason whatsoever.

But you can't just focus on a war in Asia, you need to look to the future, and inspiring the next generation is how that is done, you never know encouraging and supporting creativity may lead to a much more stable future economy for the US and give a generation who are going to grow up in one of the shittest financial states we've had in decades a bit of optimism.

Btw, a good Government has lots of priorities
