Default Alan Wake trailers...

This game has been in development for a while. It is looking good. It seems to play like a stephen king novel. Too bad we can't embed gametrailer vids...

I'm torn. I saw some of the gameplay (broke my black out due to something Kamspy said.)

The trailer with him running from the cops reminded me of Silent Hill, the environment, the lack of a defensive weapon, and yada.

But the trailer with him at the cabin area, and how slow time was used, made it feel more action than suspense.

I didn't know they changed the combat system that much. My guess is - it has a cover system huh?

I saw a 4 minute vid the other day of this. It looks fantastic. Appears you control alan with the left stick and his torch with the right stick. The gameplay vid I watched didn't give much away though. Hope this is more a psychological horror game ala the older Silent Hill games (and Homecoming it would seem). The environments look stunning and it looks like they've nailed the atmosphere.

Yeah it looks like it could be pretty good. I wished the char reacted more naturally to events in the game. For example, he should crotch or become startled when loud events occur. Since the game is in third person, you are supposed to identify more with the char.

That could ruin the flow for the controls. Other horror titles dont tend to have much character reaction. Look at Nathan Drake on Uncharted 2, he DOES respond to whats going on, and a lot of people find it annoying lol.

Actual crouching etc movements would change the way the game controlled and stop it being as tight (IMO obviously). I think the player should feel the tension and fear, not the game character and that is all generated through the tension.

It's tearing me apart too. I mean, the narrative looks like it's ripped from a King novel, and the gunplay seems to be torn from Gears of Resident Evil 4. I won't try to buffer Remedy's decision to take a more action oriented approach, but I can't say I agree with it. It kind of overlaps with with previous approaches. Almost out of sync with their initial direction.

So yeah, I'm torn.

I wonder who called the shot to make it more Gears of War action oriented? It's a shame, but hopefully it'll still retain the atmosphere.
