I'm a bit behind in catching up with Blu-ray and have just been reading about HDMI and specifically HDCP. My immediate plan was to buy a Sony BDPS350 player to use with my Sony VPLHS10 projector via HDMI-DVI (prior to upgrade of the projector). However my understanding is that HDCP (of which the projector knows nothing) will prevent display of anything better than DVD definition. Is this correct? Is there a interim way around that?

If the HS10 does not support HDCP, then you will not be able to use the BD player via HDMI. Your other possible option would be component video if the HS10 supports 1080i using that connection.

Currently I'm using component from the DVD player and DVI from the PC and I'm presuming (rather than knowing) that the HS10 is pre HDCP. I had expected that I could communicate from a new player via DVI, and only received "the truth" through searching for HDMI-DVI connectors. Guess I was hoping that (a) I hadn't correctly understood the limitation, or (b) somebody would have already found a way around it. So guess it's time to upgrade both player and projector.

Maybe I'm making a rash assumption about HDCP? According to another forum (http://www.avforums.com/forums/dlp-l...lp-please.html) my original plan is OK. Although that removes the immediate excuse to change to an EPSON TW2000. All advice is welcome.

Seems like the only way to know for sure would be to get your BD player and try out the HS10.

That would certainly prove it. Of course the question was asked because I don't yet have a Blu-Ray player. But I do have a new projector, so the original question can be put aside. The new question is getting a player that will play all regions because my collection of DVDs has region 1,2 and 4 disks and will have mixed region BDs. Local retailers are unhelpful and the player forum doesn't offer much joy.
Anyway, thanks for assistance.
